I had a recent crash and was reconnecting to the backup media and find that FCP is not linking the “new” material to the timlines.

IN otherwords, I reconnect “shot 1” to the “shot 1 clip” in my bin, but….

all the cuts from “shot 1” on all my timelines do not react to the reconnected material. I thought thats how it used to work??
surely I don’t have to reconnect every shot on every timeline.

this is also a fresh FCP 6 install. perhaps there is a preference setting that is off.

any help here would save me hours of grief. (and my boss wouldn’t be so grumpy)
    Thanks.

    1) are you sure the shots aren’t reconnected? Sometimes the thumbnails don’t update and they still say offline, but if you go to the clip in the timeline they are really online. Trashing the thumbnail cache will fix this. If you are sure they aren’t reconnected read:

    2) Was the timeline from an XML import at some point? Usually when clips in a timeline don’t reconnect, they have lost the relationship to the master clip in the bin and are now their own master clips. This can happen a number of different ways.

3). You can reconnect the media in the timeline by right clicking the timeline in the browser and choose ‘reconnect media’ from the drop down. You can also achieve this by selecting all clips in the timeline and right clicking on a clip in the timeline and choose reconnect media from the drop down there.

no the individual clips, when you park on then , show “media offline”
there is no XML list or foriegn timeline.

I had a drive fail and was just reconnecting to the backups.

same folder names (except for the first folder)
    shoud be a quick reconnect.

NORMALLY, I can reconnect one shot and all shots from that clip fill in.

I normally reconnect the clips in the bin and then the timelines populate.

    this is not happening today.

all clips in the bin are connected, but the timelines remain
    UN connected.
like I said, this is new install, so I am thinking some box somewhere is not checked, that was before.

    where is the thumbnail cashe??

thanks for the help, by the way.
