Take a quick look underneath your windows. There’s a little dropdown that says “2 Views” next to “Active Camera”. That’s your problem :o) Set it back to 1 View and you’re done.

This should do you:

z=thisComp.layer("Camera 1").transform.position[2];
[value[0],value[1],value[2]+z]

Just change the layer’s name if your camera layer isn’t called “Camera 1”. You can now move your layer independently and still have the influence of the camera’s Z position.

Couple of things for you to check.

i) Does the data look good in the txt file? That’s to say, is it displaying a keyframe for every frame?
ii) Does your framerate match between the tracking data and your After Effects comp?

If both of those are OK, then you should just restart After Effects and repaste the data in. Any time there’s a problem with pasting stuff into AE, a restart is a good cure-all.

If you’re working with a non-US/GB keyboard this could be the problem. On Windows I have to change my language settings to EN from Danish, then I can use Alt-å and Alt-¨ to set in and out points.

They just happen to be the two keys to the right of the P key, so correspond to where [ and ] would be on a standard English keyboard.

Could that be the issue?

If you already have a completed version in your Render Queue, have it selected and duplicate it with:

Win: Ctrl-Shift-D
Mac: Cmd-Shift-D

This will make an exact copy of your previous render settings, including the filename. Just start the render and say it’s OK to overwrite the file.

Hi Lou,

You need to calibrate your monitors. That’s the only way to get consistent colours across them.

Get yourself a hardware calibrator for your computer monitors and see what a difference it makes. If your budget conscious, I’ve heard good things about the Spyder Pro series but I’ll wait for other voices to chime in there.

You also can’t trust that those colours on your computer screen will look exactly the same on a broadcast monitor, let alone an uncalibrated HD LCD. The fact it looks dark on your screen and light on your friends is testament to that. Any colour grading should be done on a good, calibrated monitor. That way you know you’ve done the best you can before it goes into the big, wide world.

There’s a big section in the After Effects help about Color Management. It will take a few readings to absorb it properly.

I can’t remember a time where I’ve been in an electronics store where two TVs have matched up, even playing lovely Hollywood Blu-rays. :o) They just don’t bother to calibrate them.

Without seeing a screenshot, I would recommend either:

i) Curves – Add blue mids, remove red mids to cool the shot down.
ii) Hue/Saturation – Just select the yellows, and tweak the saturation and possibly the hue a touch.

If you want even more control on it, use Color Finesse and tweak your yellows in the secondary tab. Select your range, then push the hue offset towards the blue to neutralise your yellow.

I’m not quite sure exactly the effect that you’re trying to do, but can I ask why you’re using the Write-On effect rather than a Paint or Eraser?

With those you can select your mask path, copy it (Cmd-C) and paste it onto the appropriate Paint path (either eraser or brush).

That way you can get the exact path you need and no limitations on diameter.

Yes. When drawing your lines with the Pen tool, turn off “Rotobezier” and use the shift key to create straight lines. If you create a control point where you want your corner to start then click-drag where you want your corner to end, you can create a nice rounded corner.

If you don’t get it at first, then practice. It’s pretty straightforward.
