    Hi everyone,

I try to create moving lines, and would like them to go around a smooth 90 degree bend with rounded corners much like in this commercial example:
    https://www.revostock.com/FileCloseupAE.html?ID=74739

Is there an easy way to do this in AE directly without AI or PS. I get my moving line (stroke effect) but the round corners are eluding me

Well, naturally I could buy the project, but I’m rather on the poor side of things, so if anyone has a quick tip it is much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Johannes

Yes. When drawing your lines with the Pen tool, turn off “Rotobezier” and use the shift key to create straight lines. If you create a control point where you want your corner to start then click-drag where you want your corner to end, you can create a nice rounded corner.

If you don’t get it at first, then practice. It’s pretty straightforward.

    Good luck with your project,
    Ben

    Thanks a bunch Ben

At first, I didn’t quite get it, but alas now I understand your pointer and it works. Hurray! Do the straight lines; create the start and end point for the curve; drag their handles to the corner point (of the straight line); delete the corner point.

    Thanks again,
    Johannes

You could do it that way. Or just skip the corner point like this:

Glad you’ve got it working, either way though.

You can also use Shape Layers.
Draw your line-shape with 90 degree angles,
    Add: Rounded Corners
    Add: Trim Paths

That saves a lot of handles and control points !

    cya,
