Windows (especially Vista) is generally rather fickle about this type of thing. I’ve found it’s not even above saying that a file is in use when no applications are open. Anyways…
Do you have that file selected in After Effects when you’re trying to overwrite it? It could be that generating the thumbnail is causing the problem.
Other options include, shutting down After Effects, doing the overwrite and starting AE back up. Or importing the media with a new name and do an Alt-drag replace in the timeline. This last one stops being a viable option if you have multiple instances of a the clip to keep track of.
Basically what I’m saying is that this is probably more of a Windows thing than an AE thing.

You’re absolutely right about the upgrade. It’s V6.0 & above. And you do need to provide a legit serial from an earlier product when you install the upgrade.

Here’s a way to do it:
i) Track your footage and apply it to a Null.
ii) Use the Write-on effect and use the pickwhip to link the Brush Position to the Null’s position. Job done.In fact, you could not bother with an expression if you didn’t need to. Just copy and paste the keyframes from the Motion Tracker (or Null) to the Brush Position.

I do quite a bit of shooting in a photo studio, so I know your problems.
As said below you could use an effect in STP to help reduce it (a careful noise gate is sometimes useful for smaller echoes, but I think I’ll try the other one next time).
What we have to do is fill the space with stuff to absorb the sound as much as possible. Even regular thick fabric helps. Thick carpet on the floor helps reduce sound reflections there too. Might not be possible if you need to see feet though :o)
A shotgun mic on a boom works better for us than lapel mics, and looks nicer too but YMMV.

You *may* be able to run AE 5.5 under Rosetta, but it won’t be quick. If I cast my mind way back when, I think that V5.5 was the first OS X version of After Effects.
If you’re spending the money on a new Macbook Pro, you’d be well off to consider upgrading to the latest After Effects as well. You’ll get a lot of value for your $299.
Just IMHO, of course.

I agree with Paul about the MDD series. The noise would definitely be an issue for you.
In the original post you said you were looking at the Quicksilvers. That would be a good choice IMO.

Hi Robert
If you are only using it for digitizing then a Quicksilver Mac would be fine. In fact, I’ve got a 533Mhz Graphite G4 that’s still running fine for capturing 360KB material. It even works fine just connected to a decent firewire drive! Even quieter and less Media 100 approved.
Compatible Peripheral Guides from way back when are quite difficult to find. They seem to have been scrubbed from the ftp as they got superceded. I’ve got a link here. This link may not be here forever and if you have any issues about me hosting it, Wick then I’ll take it down :o)
An important thing, I seem to remember, is to get QT 6.5.

There’s several different ways to achieve this, but here’s a simple one.
i) Place your main footage as the bottom layer.
ii) Put your stabilized footage above it.
iii) Draw a shape layer in the shape of your bubble. This layer should be directly above your stabilized footage.
iv) Set the track matte of your stabilzed footage to Alpha Inverted. And bang! There’s your PinP.Cheers,

Use the Color Correction > Levels filter. Simply take the Input Black up (drag the top left arrow to the right) and this will clip your blacks to the desired level.
You can also do the same with your whites (top right arrow).
