January 2, 2014 at 4:24 pm in reply to: Value Priced Expansion Chassis?

As someone that goes to client sites at times I am considering the “trashcan” because of portability. I have a gtx680 classified in the MP 5.1 and two gtx580 classifieds in the expansion chassis. I rarely take the chassis b/c it doesn’t make sense for spot work. I would like the speed though and putting $1k in a titan doesn’t make sense anymore to me.

Let’s get some real world bench marks to help with the decision process! The Pioneers get shot, the Settlers get the land!

November 28, 2013 at 3:35 pm in reply to: duplicating a timeline with handles

If you, in Color Tab: View; Show Current Clip With Handles, then it will show entire clip and you can track it and the handles.

On the timeline display “Handles” will be lighted.

Make sure your handles length in Project Settings is greater than or equal to your desired settings in Delivery Tab Handles.

Some of my clients only want to see the edited in to out w/o handles so I normally do this after the main session but when working alone or with folks that don’t get hung up on edit I will enable it.

    Great improvement!

Now back to “always enabled” auto save………

It’s gone but still there, much better!

To set handles: Project Settings; Editing; Default Handle Length

In Color Tab: View; Show Current Clip With Handles. Can Select Multiple Clips to enable by shift clicking on them.

In Delivery Tab: Output Options; Add xxx Frame Handles. Individual Clip Render must be enabled.

Just used this yesterday and it works much better as clients can see cut and then I can extend tracking at any time!

As an aside, sure wish Auto Save was DEFAULT! Lost 3 hrs. b/c I was in a hurry at the beginning of the day and didn’t set it up!

November 26, 2013 at 2:56 am in reply to: Client wants my .drp?

I had this situation as well on a movie that I colored on my system. They have a Resolve license as well. I was credited as colorist and told the client that I would strongly prefer to be involved in any additional tweaks. I did do the work as part of the package and it did involve several additional hours but I knew no one was going to change the final product. I feel that I am paid for the output only and unless negotiated up front (for a large additional fee) I would not give the .drp to the client.

On the other hand, I regularly use an in-house system at another client’s location and they have all the project data but I make it easy to call me for fixes and they would rather do that as they are busy billing doing other tasks.

I’m also interested in other perspectives.

FYI, most CGI folks I know don’t give the .aep or other files, only the output.

Bought it, used it, rendered it, looks good!

    1920×1080 ProResHQ out.

Not too fast on render, would like to hear how it works with the Titan and is it multi GPU aware?

  • Any bench marks, using standard candle?

I have a non-flashed 680 Classified and wonder how much faster a flashed/un-flashed EVGA GeForce GTX TITAN SuperClocked Signature 6GB is compared to the rest.

Interested in the new RED Cine that uses GPU, talked to the developer at NAB and they said they were writing for GPU.

Not a RED Fan Boy (Love Alexa!) but the Dragon footage I have seen looks really nice and I want to be ready if folks start shooting it.

I have used several MacVid Cards in the past and they all worked great, unflashed 680 works as well but no boot / shutdown is a little disconcerting.

MacVidCard, flashing prices for a Titan I purchase?
