  • MacVidCards has Mac EFI Titan and GTX780 finished – makes them into native OSX cards

Hey, just saw the news about Redcine-X and think this is great timing.

We just yesterday finished EFI support for GTX Titan and GTX780.

The 780 works fine using internal power, Titan may require a little more.

We will be offering a mod service as buying these cards in numbers will be expensive.

Anyone in Hollywood can bring by for same day (2-4 hr) turnaround.

Requires Mac Pro 3,1 or later (4,1 preferred) and OSX 10.8.3 or later.

OpenCl support is not in OS yet but CUDA performance is incredible.

As a side benefit, cards will be enabled for full PCIE 2.0 support in Windows via bootcamp, if you are running an unflashed card in a MP, it will only run at PCIE 1.0 speeds unless modded.

We also now offer a GT640 as GUI card. Has 4 times speed of GT120 and can run 3 digital displays. (2 @ DVI 1 @ HDMI)

We are especially proud as this means that a 2012 Mac Pro can now be upgraded to BETTER GPUs then the yet-to-be-released Mac Pro iCan. (Pre-obsoleted)

I have one running natively in a MacPro 5,1 under OS 10.8.4, but it does require MORE POWER… especially if you are also running something else as the primary GPU for User Interface that requires supplemental energy. There won’t be enough outputs on the motherboard to run both, and you will be stealing hard drive supplies. So there is a Seasonic power supply sitting on top of my MacPro with leads running through an open PCIe slot… [insert clip of Dr. Frankenstein screaming “It’s ALIVE!!!!!” here ]

and needed to figure out “the paper clip” trick to get the external power supply to light up.

What might I ask are you charging for this modification service? Can’t we just flash the cards ourselves on a PC tower, I have come across articles that explain how to do it easily but have also heard its not that hard to do.

Maybe just save yourselves the trouble, ebay hassle for support and expense, just buy the stock pc version and deal with no boot screen.

I’ve used a standard stock GTX 5803gb, 6804gb and now Titan (w/ external PSU), all with no bootscreen on different macpro’s, 3,4 & 5,1 and dont miss it! With OSX 10.9 there is supposed to be a bunch of new cards supported so it may even be completely irrelevant to have this done no?

Some people like bootscreens, let’s you leave out a GUI card if short on slots.

Also, on a 3,1 Mac Pro, any and all non-EFI cards run at 1/2 bus speed in OSX and Windows. You can see this easily in CUDA-Z. (or use lspci)

On a 4,1 and 5,1 the 10.8.3 and later drivers fix the bus speed in OSX but have no effect in WIndows, still 1/2 bus speed. So if you ever cross boot into Windows you will work at PCIE 1.0 speed.

If these things don’t affect or concern you, sounds like regular cards will work out well for you.

As far as flashing one yourself, the 780 and Titan are not DIY like a 680 is.

Isn’t the GT640 a dual slot card? What’s the replacement for the GT120 which is also single slot? So that one can fit the Titan in Slot 1, GUI card in Slot 2 and have two slots available for a Blackmagic and some other, maybe SAS.

Also, how well do these (Titan/GTX780) cards work in a PCI expander?

So 780 also runs as a pc version but only win is limited?

I’m Asking as i’m far from LA and double delivery would be a bit much maybe.

I have Daves 470 running really nice now.

How does the titan and 780 compare ?

Any bench marks, using standard candle?

I have a non-flashed 680 Classified and wonder how much faster a flashed/un-flashed EVGA GeForce GTX TITAN SuperClocked Signature 6GB is compared to the rest.

Interested in the new RED Cine that uses GPU, talked to the developer at NAB and they said they were writing for GPU.

Not a RED Fan Boy (Love Alexa!) but the Dragon footage I have seen looks really nice and I want to be ready if folks start shooting it.

I have used several MacVid Cards in the past and they all worked great, unflashed 680 works as well but no boot / shutdown is a little disconcerting.

MacVidCard, flashing prices for a Titan I purchase?

    Hey David,

I bought my last 2 Nvidia GPU’s from you. They’ve been flawless. So you are saying a 780 will work on a 5,1 MacPro with internal power? I have a 5,1 and a 4,1… so both are OK? Can I use the 2 6-pin power ports or do I also need to use power from one of the drive slots?

    thanks,

    Jonathon
