I know dynamic link supports cross dissolve. It doesn’t support all kinds of dissolves. The livedocs dynamic link readme lists all the things that work or not. This is for ctrl + v pasting btw.

usually all you have to do is make the comp duration longer in composition settings and drag layer to right.

if you use pixel time stretch, precomp it then add timestretch to the precomp, you can then make the precomp long enough for the effect to run all the way through.

    * To cycle through Timecode Base, Frames, and Feet + Frames, Ctrl-click (Windows) or Command-click (Mac OS) the current-time display at the bottom of the Composition, Layer, or Footage panel, or at the top of the Timeline panel.
    * To change time display units, choose File > Project Settings, and choose from the options in the Display Style section.

that’s easy, AE CS4 has fractal presets called fabric, simply animate them

Some people have said that turning off opengl and/or using animation codec instead fixes the problem. It’s very strange that this problem is so widespread, including Prorez codec too, even though its intraframe.

    some thoughts..

It’s possible that partway into the key, there’s a transparency issue that messes up the background. Watch for any changes in the b/w matte as you scrub. Also, try this noise fix for keylight.

or even try precomposing the key then add background.

  • I actually built a separate RGB AE project so that you can hue each Red, Green, and Blue layer to create unlimited custom colors and transfer/rotate to colors without using any color keys. Its 32bpc too. It uses set channels and color balance. It’s very similar to 2 strip where green gets mapped to blue. Do you have CS3 or CS4?

April 2, 2009 at 9:36 pm in reply to: Billboard Replacement??? tips/tricks?

the secret to hand roto billboard replacement is putting the footage in a double its fps comp so that you can track each field separately.
When you hit PgDown, it will move only one field, not a whole frame so there’s no more jiggle, that’s my secret giveaway today.

I hope the VFX guy is kidding about sRGB. That is the smallest color gamut in AE. It’s used for internet graphics, not DPX or RED.

DPX files are a cineon format which are mostly log, but you can export them as standard. It’s very strange to do so, but it is possible.

Simply ask what color profile they outputed and use that in AE. IF they used none, DPX will work fine, and even more precise.

If they really wanted quality, they would go Linear color profile and DPX full range log, but maybe they like camcorder dynamic range.
