However, for RGB codecs, 2.2 is not often the correct value. This means that files that use RGB codecs (such as Animation or None) are over-corrected and look washed out or too light.

If you enable the Match Legacy After Effects QuickTime Gamma Adjustments option in the Project Settings in After Effects CS3, then it will not tag QuickTime files with the metadata tag when it renders them.

edit MediaCoreQTGammaRules.xml so that your codecs are tagged or not with 2.2 gamma. That’s what I call automatic fixing!

  • AVID dnxhd is jpeg compression, photo jpeg is visually lossless 4:4:4: at 100% but not math lossless, although it is very impressive for its file size. I’d put it in the same catagory as dvc pro hd for 5 good compresses.

Correct me if I’m wrong, I didn’t see you try select all and paste ctrl + v. That enables individual track editing.

was autosave on? did u delete any old project files?
i know file scavenger can recover things, but if AE somehow overwrite one and only one copy of the project, you will have to
try opening after effects, then importing that messed up project file as if it were just a footage file. AEP files import into AE as their own little folders, so you can then go through and try to find what got corrupted.

April 5, 2009 at 7:58 pm in reply to: AE CS3: Mpeg-II codec problems

AE doesn’t like interframe compression; there are many other options besides mpeg2 which is not lossless btw. There is -I-only GOP intraframe encoding of mpeg2, but there’s so many non-standard encodings, that AE couldn’t know them all.
