Question about changing color spectrum (for color blindness)
Hey all, long time fan of the Cow here! I have a project that I’m slowly working on and realized I may had a potential hurdle in a few shots that I ‘m not sure how best to approach.
Specifically, I have a main character who will be blue-yellow color blind (also known as Tritanopia. You can see an example here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/lwr/3194029676/in/set-72157612515456090/) and would like to have a few shots from a first person perspective. Clearly this will mean a severe color correction, and this is my problem. I’m not sure which colors to pull out to achieve this look.
Ideally it would be great if I could just change from using the regular color spectrum to this more limited one (this page has a good illustration of the two spectrums, side by side: https://www.colblindor.com/2006/05/08/tritanopia-blue-yellow-color-blindness/). Sadly though, I’m not sure how I do this sort of a swap in After Effects. My alternatives would either be to figure it out in Levels/Curves or just alter my storyboard so that nothing is shown from this character’s perspective.
Anyone ever done something along these lines? I would greatly appreciate any help or insight.

I actually built a separate RGB AE project so that you can hue each Red, Green, and Blue layer to create unlimited custom colors and transfer/rotate to colors without using any color keys. Its 32bpc too. It uses set channels and color balance. It’s very similar to 2 strip where green gets mapped to blue. Do you have CS3 or CS4?

Sorry for the delay, my internet was down for about four days.
Actually something obvious dawned on me shortly after posting. I had forgotten about Set Channels, which gave me exactly the effect I was looking for when I told it to set my blue channel to green. I guess I was over thinking things; I’m too used to doing slight color tweaks with levels, curves and a touch of Hue/Sat.
Sounds like a helpful program though! Likely would be helpful in other situations. I’m currently using CS3 but am probably going to upgrade to CS4 one of these days.

It’s a 32bpc AE CS3 technicolor 3 strip project that has simple wheels that change the temperature of each rgb channel, brown multiplier effect for matching film skin tones, and tint fill project settings blend color using 1.0 gamma. The precomps can smart blur the saturation, they are disabled default.
I created it so that I could take existing dv footage and make it tone map to film. I’ve had a lot of fun making it.
