    Hi Eli,

Check out Silverstack from Pomfort : http://www.pomfort.com

It will extract the DPX timecode and reelname info from the header and embedd it into the Quicktime clip, plus you can do a whole lot more in the software. It’ll do exactly what you want.

    August 17, 2007 at 4:17 pm in reply to: 720p 59.94 but using Photo-JPEG codec ?

    Hi Tom,

I tried DV and it works but because it is 59.94, the data rate is 7MB/sec instead of 3.6MB/sec so it’s only half the file size. I need to maintain the frame rate at 59.94 so that it’s easier to relink to the DVCProHD 59.94 original clips.

I can’t think of any other codec to use except PhotoJPEG but I do understand it’s limitation especially when it comes to RT Extreme which I’m not particularly concerned as this is just offline and only has dissolves at most which we can easily render them.

July 29, 2007 at 2:50 am in reply to: monitoring 1080i50 from lhe

Relax…no need to use UPPER CASE because it “sounded” like you’re yelling…you don’t want Bob to hear you. Oh no, I think I hear his footseps already 😛

First thing first…check the properties of the DVCProHD clips and make sure that it matches to the sequence. If you want to make life easier, upgrade to FCP6 coz it’ll automatically set your timeline to match your clip.

In the Kona control panel, is your format set to 1080i25 ? Are you trying to monitor in 1080i25 or 625i on your video monitor ? Are you using SDI or Analog ? Make sure that the Primary and Secondary format are set to what your desired output format.

In FCP Video Playback (in Audio/Video Setting under FCP menu), is it set to AJA Kona 1920 x 1080 25fps DVCProHD (or something like that) ?

If something doesn’t match between the timeline and the clip, I usually select the clip in the timeline and open up the clip’s properties and the sequence setting and compare both of them. Check for things like resolution, aspect ratio, frame rate…etc. Remember that DVCProHD 1080 is 1440 x 1080, not 1920 x 1080 in the sequence setting.

July 29, 2007 at 2:36 am in reply to: XDCAM materials on portable HDD

    Thanks for all your replies.

On the P2, I’ve successfully copied the CONTENTS folder from the P2 store into my internal HDD and then use FCP 6’s Log and Transfer to navigate to the folder to import the materials. You cannot rename the CONTENTS folder so if you need to identify the contents, just put it into another folder.

Thanks for the tip on transferring to QT clips first using the Sony Transfer Software. That made alot of sense. The only thing is that without FCP installed, will we be able to transfer it to the XDCAM IMX format ?

You need to navigate to the CONTENTS folder in the FAT32 external hard disks, or one folder above it. You cannot rename the CONTENTS folder, which contains the subfolders for VIDEO, AUDIO…etc from the original P2.

    Hi Gary and all,

Just to confirm, if I take the Cinema Tool route, does it change the speed of the video when going from 25p to 24p or does it perform some kind of intelligent pulldown to remove a frame off every second ?

And if this is a full length feature film, any idea how long it’ll take ?

May 9, 2007 at 2:21 pm in reply to: Kona LHe and Dualcore 2Ghz PowerPC G5

    Hi Wally,

The 2.5 is indeed a Quad machine (dual dualcore). The 2.0 and 2.3 are single dualcore machine and they work fine if you don’t need a powerful machine. It’s just that one two different 2.0 G5, I keep having problem with the G5 locking up when I switch the LHe from SD to HD and then back to SD.

There was nothing mentioned in your earlier post about the presence of the Media100…if it was mentioned, I would’ve suggested that you try with a fresh OSX without the Media100 or uninstall Media100 to see if it makes any difference.

It was a piece of vital information but you’ve figured out the issue already.
