Any idea which rendered effects will turn a beautiful 10bit 4:4:4 RGB into 8bit pumpkin ?

  • I didn’t know there is a CRT with DVI inputs…

  • I did a quick test today and managed to playback DV, 8bit Uncompressed (actually was old Cinewave 8bit clips), PhotoJPEG 50% and Animation codec clips in the same timeline on my Kona2 running on OSX 10.3.9 with 1.1.1 driver and FCP5. I applied a color corrector on the PhotoJPEG and DV clips and it played back smoothly.

But when I overlayed a LiveType animation (which is in Animation format with alpha), it choked on playback when I placed it over a 8bit Uncompressed clip. Well, at least it played…rather than having to render it first like before. Also when I applied a dissolve between the DV and Uncompressed clip, it played back ok.

My G5 is a dual 2.5Ghz with 2GB RAM with the X800XT card. Maybe with dual 2.7Ghz I can play the LiveType clip smoother.

I think this feature is possible with the Dynamic RT Extreme in FCP5. So all we need now is faster G5s.

Yes you can…there is a pulldown menu in Log & Capture that allows you to choose how many channels you want to capture and there is a little icon next to the audio meter to toggle between stereo and mono.

  • Joey, this is one feature of Cinewave that everyone is hoping companies like AJA will implement into their products. I do believe this was done on the Cinewave hardware as it shares some of the technology from the Targa3000 which, again, I believe is able to mix codecs in the same timelime on the PC. Can the AJA hardware do it ? Dunno…if it could be done, it would’ve been done by now unless there are some technical challenges.

With regards to your Cinewave files, if you put them in an uncompressed 8bit timeline, does it still want to render ? I bet not coz’ on my system, it didn’t ask to render.

You may want to run the ProApp 3.0 Updater for 10.3.9 as it is supposed to improve the user interface reliability for FCP under 10.3.9.

Go to Apple software download section for that Updater.

If money is not a factor, why not get both 😛 ?

Well, it’s getting lonely over there…the dark side. Gonna ask Ron to migrate my little fake-mustache-head over here.
