June 8, 2005 at 1:00 pm in reply to: using kona captured footage on a non-kona computer? What about those clips captured with the Apple Uncompressed 4:2:2 8bit or 10bit codec, which apparently is installed with FCP ?
Is there a way to copy the codecs over to the other Macs that doesn’t have FCP installed ?

Hey Ron, when the dust settles and the new machines finally emerges, it will have a small stick at the front of the Macs that says…”Intel Inside”.
And perhaps we can get finally into the BIOS and mess things up real good 😛

Adam,
My Kona2 experience with my customers have been great. As far as technical design of the Kona2 card, it’s from AJA so you can be rest assured as they’ve been in the broadcast business for years. My personal favourite is the Kona Control Panel as it makes formats, I/O and up/down conversion selection very easily and visually as well as there is a routing diagram to show what goes in, goes out and gets converted. Add the AJA Io into the mix and you have a very powerful analog/digital SD & HD setup. Plus you can use the Io as a standalone converter through the Io Control Panel. Very handy.
And last…but not least, the K-BOX breakout box is a must have and given that cost is not a major issue for you, just get it.

I think I may have asked you this before but anyhow…in your SAN installs, do you usually use both FC ports on the HBAs ? Does it speed up the throughput if you use both FC ports ?
And if the two FC ports goes to into a switch and the switch in turns goes into both the ADTX RAID controllers (4 FC cables in total, 2 per controllers), how you do manage the LUNs so that it does not duplicate or get confused ? This is the part that I’m still trying to figure out.

Since Astera is no longer making the Rhino FC cards, which alternative will you be looking at ?
Have you tried the ATTO Celerity series ?

Francois,
So to keep things less complicated, if one wants to use FCP as a finishing system in 10bit RGB 4:4:4, it is possible as long as we set the rendering to 32bit float ?

Yes Bart…I second that. A “generic” SAN forum would be great since there are so many variations out there.

Francois,
I’ve successfully setup a SAN with ADTX, Apple FC card and SANmp so definitely it is workable. In fact I didn’t need to do any LUN mapping and the Apple FC card could see the LUNs straight away.
Ok this is not a SAN forum so I don’t want to fill up the thread here. Email me at christay@mediav.com.sg and I’ll share with you what I know.
