Pat, the Kona LHe also provides HD I/O in both analog and digital formats, which for your case may be an overkill if you are not going to be doing anything HD. This is the reason why the LHe cost more than the Decklink Extreme and you can’t compare the two. If you do plan to do HDV in future, I’d recommend that you start off with the AJA Io series (Io LA will do analog I/O for you if that’s all you need) and then add the LHe when you are ready to do HDV. The combination of LHe and the IoLA will give you a very powerful setup.

Where is your feed from ?

Do you have another SDI source that you can try from ?

Does this also happen when you capture from FCP ?

Any one knows if the Intel based G5 will have PCIe ?

I hope it will have both PCI-X and PCIe ! Come on Steve…

    Hi Kristian,

If 8bit/10bit doesn’t work, then is there a reason why it is available as a choice to the user ?

I’m trying to understand a little better but I thought that we should be viewing 8bit or 10bit when going to a video monitor, instead of RGB. Appreciate if you can advise on this.

    Thanks,

Is there anything broken in PAL now ?

I think the golden rule is if it ain’t broken don’t fix it.

    Hi Martin,

Do you know if in FCP5 it autosaves every x min that we set even when there’s no activity on the Mac ?

And does the autosave in FCP5 count from the last autosave or from the last manual save to trigger an autosave session ?

  • ATTO does have a line of PCIe FC HBA and the newly announced PCIe UL5D dual channel U320 SCSI card. The PCIe FC HBA are the dual and quad versions and available only in 4Gbit. If you need a PCIe 2Gbit FC HBA, Apple has one.

    Francois,

According to ADTX the ATTO Celerity and Astera FC HBA behaves the same in Tiger where you can map out the LUNs they way you are doing now. Using the Apple FC HBA you would need to make all LUNs visible but that would mess up your mapping.

What I noticed with the Apple FC HBA on Tiger is that if you say have two LUNs, one for the primary controller and one for the secondary, if you enable all LUNs in the mapping, it actually only show up 2 LUNs in Apple Disk Utility but if you go into the Systems Profiler–>Fibre Channel, each Apple FC HBA port actually sees 2 LUNs so if you’re in Panther, you would see 4 LUNs in the Disk Utility. I have yet to figure which LUN correspond to which Apple FC HBA port as the last time I did the test my LUNs had the same size which makes it difficult to nail down.

The other issue is that Astera won’t have a PCIe HBA anytime soon so moving to the new G5 we only have options from Apple or ATTO, with ATTO only offering 4Gbit PCIe FC HBA. Apple’s new PCIe FC HBA is still 2Gbit.

And Bart, I got the same 370MB/sec or so throughput as well when I striped across both ADTX controllers and I did this on a WinXP machine. I use ATTO Bench32 to do the benchmark and I was able to playback a 2K 10bit log sequence smoothly.

  • I’m wondering how does the dualcore 2.0 and 2.3 compares to the dual 2.7 ?
