In After Effects Video Preview, should I set the Decklink to RGB, 8bit or 10bit for monitoring on an SDI video monitor ?

I read somewhere that it should be set to RGB, and if that is the case, what are the implications if I set to either 8bit or 10bit ?

    Thanks,

    Hi Chrispy,

It should be set to RGB.

It shouldn’t work if it’s set to 8-bit / 10-bit. But if it did, then you’re lucky. 😉

    Hi Kristian,

If 8bit/10bit doesn’t work, then is there a reason why it is available as a choice to the user ?

I’m trying to understand a little better but I thought that we should be viewing 8bit or 10bit when going to a video monitor, instead of RGB. Appreciate if you can advise on this.

    Thanks,

    Hi Chris,

It looks as though After Effects just displays whatever video output components in finds regardless of whether they are YUV or RGB. After Effects works in RGB mode and then DeckLink performs a color space conversion before the video is output as YUV from the DeckLink card. So RGB is the correct setting to choose and is what we mention on page 19 of the PDF manual.
