You can use media manager.

You can select the part you want and create master clip.

You can export the part you want current settings make self-contained and re-import and delete old.

You have 99 tracks of video to use in FCP.
Put one video on track one.
Put second video over top of it on track two. Adjust opacity.

You can adjust the composting settings to achieve different looks.

Did you shoot some green screen?

If you truly shot 720p DVCPRO HD then that is what your files are. What does it say for the format/Codec in the browser for you clips?

MPEG2 is NOT an editing format. That is your problem.
FCP prefers .mov files.

Are you re-loading off-line media?
Capturing a tape for the first time?
Do you have time-code breaks on your tape?

NEVER edit in H.264
Did you change your settings to ProRes as suggested here?

You have to tell it where to go.

Cntrl Click on Source and choose the folder to render to.

You can COPY the new clip.

Select old clip to be replaced.

Cntrl Click on the old clip.
Choose paste attributes.
Select contents. I believe it is. Not in front of edit @ the moment.

Going from HD to SD – you might need to further adjust something like distort or scale.
