Don’t do it. Trust me. When Blu-ray first came out we thought it was the perfect archival solution and put a ton of media on a bunch of disks. It is WAY too slow to be practical. Any time we’ve had to restore stuff it has been too time consuming. I’d look at either hard disks (which we went to after Blu-ray) or LTO-5, which we’re likely to go to next.

I was having similar problems with a single Quadro 4000. Kernel panics and other assorted flakiness. Correct drivers didn’t fix it. I ultimately did an RMA through my vendor and got another card. No problems since then. Apparently rare, but bad cards do happen. If you have one that’s working and one that’s not, it sure points in the direction of a suspect card.

I’m an old avid guy who started his own business over 11 years ago based on the affordability of FCP. I really appreciate what you are saying here and the extension of the crossgrade. I’m obviously very concerned about the future of FCP but more concerned about continuing my reliance on a company that I fear does not “get” the pro market.
You have a historic opportunity here with many users that feel like I do. I own a small facility and changing NLE systems will be a huge deal. I have 5 systems running FCP all based on Kona or Decklink cards. Knowing if support for this hardware is coming would make this decision a no brainer for me and for many more owners, operators and editors like me.

June 12, 2011 at 3:01 pm in reply to: ANYONE successfully using Quadro 4000 in a mac?? Please tell me the secret!DO NOT update to the latest v4 CUDA driver via the contol panel in system prefs. Stay at the last v3 CUDA driver. I made this mistake and it was one of the things causing me trouble.

June 6, 2011 at 3:50 pm in reply to: ANYONE successfully using Quadro 4000 in a mac?? Please tell me the secret! It is my understanding that the 2 graphics card recommendation is for performance, not for stability or functionality. I’ve had some success this morning with just the one card after getting a driver combination that seems more stable. I’ll try the two card setup later today and report.
Thanks

If you have a minute, would you email me at “chris_at_outpostpictures.tv” ?
Thanks

June 6, 2011 at 12:39 am in reply to: ANYONE successfully using Quadro 4000 in a mac?? Please tell me the secret! This happens when I have only the 4000 installed. I have an ATI 5770 but thought that I would try to get the 4000 working before throwing another card in the mix.
