We’re a bit smaller than you are, but have always run “lean and mean”. To that end, we’ve used software as much as possible to track time and jobs. This one little piece of software has been invaluable as it is a completely automatic solution for tracking time in FCP, AE, Photoshop and other software. It is server based with a tracking module installed on any machine that you’ll want to use for billing. We’ve integrated it with Filemaker Pro and Quickbooks to literally turn hours worked by any number of employees into an invoice with just a couple of clicks by our office manager. It is not a complete project management solution, but may be a cost effective component for you.

February 3, 2010 at 5:56 pm in reply to: Final Cut Pro – MultiClip – Audio not syncingHi,
I’m having the same issue with FCP 7.01. I discovered a work around that may help you as well. If you pick your audio source and one of your cameras, merge those clips (using your in points) THEN use that merged clip and your second camera to create a multiclip the audio stays in sync. An extra step and a PITA to be sure, but it works.

We do this all the time. You can use After Effects which can add proper 3:2 pulldown when rendering, just pay close attention to the gamma of your footage changing after the render. PR-HQ in and ou should be fine, just keep an eye on it. Depending on your program, a real-time output through a Kona card will also properly add pulldown as it goes to tape. Just set up fcp for 23.98 editin and the Kona for 29.97 out and you are golden.

Thanks for the reply. I’m all too familiar with Quicktime gamma issues in FCP and AE, but this looks more like a softening or chroma smoothing type issue. The gamma doesn’t actually look that different to me. Any other ideas?
Thanks again,
Chris

Steven,
We get that same error all the time and are not running Metasan but Fibrejet. I don’t think it has anything to do with the SAN but with FCP and saving to a network as Bernard mentioned. Were you able to find out what causes the issue? We’d love to know the answer!
Thanks

Mike,
If you have to do this in FCP, use the ant-alias plug in under the “stylize” (no idea why it is in there) group. This is a built in FCP plug and helps overcome FCP’s lousy scaling of hi-res images. As a much better solution for this and all things related to compositing and motion graphics, I’d HIGHLY recommend getting After Effects and the Automatic Duck plug-in that will allow you to send sequences from FCP to AE and maintain all the moves and stuff you’ve built in FCP. AE gives you so much more control in your moves and will render at much better quality.

Thanks Walter, you saved me the trouble of typing that exact response!
Hasn’t anyone else noticed this pattern? What good are new features if the old ones don’t work?

March 6, 2008 at 3:37 pm in reply to: Can Apple’s Compressor meet DGFastchannel specs?Hi,
I’ve used Episode in the past for DG encodes with no problems, but now it is failing. Can you also send me the patch ASAP? Is it included with 4.4.2 by any chance?
Thank you!
