Metasan and FCP rendering problems
Posted by Steven Lee on February 13, 2008 at 2:38 amI am curious if anyone else is having problems with there metasan when capturing or rendering in FCP 6.0.2.
We keep getting an error of “unknown file error”
We are using 2 metasan license on 2 different MacPro systems over a fiber system.
Thanks ahead of time.

February 18, 2008 at 4:54 pmHi Steve,
There are no known problems when capturing or rendering using FCP on metaSAN.
However, FCP has known issues when saving on external drives (not only SAN) and this issue is discussed in a couple of forums.
Here are some forum links:

I saw you had some email exchange with support a few days ago. Have you come to a resolution?
FYI Someone told me that the latest version of FCP had a fix for this, but I did not get any confirmation yet. Perhaps someone else would know…
Regards,
Bernard

February 19, 2008 at 3:11 amThanks Bernard.
Something happened the other day that has made me think might know what the problem is. I am gonna try a theory for a couple days.
I forgot the metadata is dependant on the ethernet IP address. I am gonna try something tomorrow and test that theory out.
Georgi wanted to remote connect and see what is causing the problem. We can not recreate it because it never happens on any particular process. Sometimes it is during a rendering and sometime it is logging and capturing. Sometimes it isnt doing anything with the SAN.
That is why I think it might be something on the IP that is cause unknown file error. I will let both you and Georgi what i come up with.
Thanks for all your help Bernard.

We get that same error all the time and are not running Metasan but Fibrejet. I don’t think it has anything to do with the SAN but with FCP and saving to a network as Bernard mentioned. Were you able to find out what causes the issue? We’d love to know the answer!
Thanks
