  • ANYONE successfully using Quadro 4000 in a mac?? Please tell me the secret!

Ok, so I hear from Blackmagic that tons of people are using the Quadro 4000 successfully with Resolve. I find this curious since I can’t get my machine to run for more than 5 minutes with that card installed. I’ve read all the nonsense about Apple and 10.6.7 and the “fix” from Nvidia. I’ve installed everything in the proper order, even going so far as rebuilding my entire system from the ground up with a clean OS install and combo update to 10.6.7 (with an ATI card installed), then installing the latest Nvidia drivers, then putting in the Quadro and booting again. Let the kernel panics ensue.

So, if there’s ANYONE out there that has made this work successfully I’d love to know the secret. Maybe I have a bad card, but since Nvidia tech support doesn’t seem to exist I’m not sure how to find out other than this plea to my fellow cows. Can anyone help a brother out? I’ve been fighting with this for a week and half now.

    Thanks

I’m sucessfully using a quadro 4000 in an 8 core nahalem. Im on 10.6.5 and resolve 7.1. I’m not sure what the oldest os is that you can run on that machine. I think you might have better luck with 10.6.5. That was before the quadro 4000 broke.

This happens when I have only the 4000 installed. I have an ATI 5770 but thought that I would try to get the 4000 working before throwing another card in the mix.

I think I can boot that machine with 10.6.5. I’ve tried 10.6.6 and 10.6.7 with the updated Nvidia drivers. Ain’t happnin.

    Hi
    I have a 2008 3.1 2×2.8Ghz quad core mac pro running Resolve 7.1 with a FX4000 with no problems.
    Here’s my config
ATI 2600HD Slot 1 ( i know it’s not spec but it works just fine for the GUI) feeding 1 monitor for the GUI.
PNY Quadro FX4000 for Mac Slot 2 (i know this is a dumb question but you have checked the power cable for the Quadro is plugged in correctly right?)
    Highpoint Rocketraid 3522 Slot 3
BMD HD Extreme 3 in Slot 4.
If it works for five minutes only and then goes down, it could be a power or heat issue.

    Good luck

You do have a Quadro 4000 for Mac, yes?

Yeah, if only it were that silly of a mistake! It is definitely branded for mac. Starting to think this is a bad card.

I’d like to ask you some other questions if you have the time. Did you ever try just the Quadro 4000 by itself, or has it always been just the GPU card?

If you have a minute, would you email me at “chris_at_outpostpictures.tv” ?

    Thanks

I’m currently using two Quadro 4000 cards on my system and it’s working fine. What card are you using for driving the GUI? You should try using the ATI card for the GUI and not plug anything into the Quadro 4000 so as to use it for GPU processing.
