I’ll have to double check this, but I believe the last update or so of Resolve uses the standard drivers. At any rate, I had installed the latest BMD drivers AFTER I installed Symphony, and long after the install of Resolve, so they SHOULD have overwritten whatever Resolve installed. I’ll check with the BMD guys about this on monday. I have a full version of Resolve too btw, not lite.

Just tested another box here in the office running Symphony with AJA instead of BMD. Much more fluid. If only I could run Resolve with an AJA card I’d be set.

Yeah, I just turned off the client monitor video out and the gui is much better. Kind of ironic isn’t it? Going to AVID because video out was one of FCPX’s shortcomings and it’s an issue here with Avid too. Glad BMD and avid are working on it. Does the same issue exist with AJA hardware?

Yeah, I was an AVID guy many years ago so no issue with keyboard editing, though for some things I got used to dragging in FCP. I do in fact have a BMD card. Is this a penalty for non-avid hardware?

Ahh yes, thanks for pointing this out. I’ve had this exact issue with FCP. I suppose what I really want then is a CHOICE. Especially with Symphony since it is supposedly more of a finishing tool. A check box that says “Don’t save me from myself, I know what I’m doing” would be great.

I just tried what I was asking about in Premiere CS5 and it handles the scaling properly. It’s really curious how AVID is clearly “more professional” in many ways and yet clearly flawed in others.
Will AVID continue to listen to it’s customers or stop after we all abandon FCP ??

Not a rumor… just got the announcement:
DaVinci Resolve 9
We have worked very hard on DaVinci and the new DaVinci Resolve 9 features a completely redesigned user interface. Over the last few years we have been busy adding more camera and file type support plus powerful features, however we thought it was time to rethink the user interface to make it much faster to use.
The new user interface has been designed to be extremely fast to use and to eliminate any unnecessary clicks and settings to get working fast. You can now get a job running in three clicks, one to log in, one to drop media into the project, and the next to grade! It’s really amazing and it’s hard to describe so you really need to see it!
Even though DaVinci is used on more feature films than any other color correction system, plus has more powerful features than any other solution, we did not want to get complacent. I think this new user interface is vital to DaVinci Resolve’s future. It is now a true, modern, multi-platform tool. It’s just as powerful, but also nicer to use.
We hope everyone really likes the attention to detail in the new interface and we think it’s also one of the best looking software tools. Thousands of hours of engineering have been put into it, and if you’re heading to NAB, please stop by the booth to check out the interface and add your comments and suggestions!
DaVinci Resolve 9 will ship in July as a free update for all users on Mac, Windows and Linux, and will also be available as the free Resolve Lite model.

One thing you could try is to modify the timecode in the FCP sequence to match the timecode your seeing in the .cine files. Basically, it would go something like this:
For each shot used in the edit, you find a match frame (a slate, presumably) between your .cine files and the transcodes used in the edit. The FCP editor then selects each clip in the timeline and uses the modify>timecode command to make the slate frame timecode match the timecode you’re seeing on the same frame. Once this is done for each shot in the timeline (if several shots are sub clips from one master clip, he should only have to do it for the master clip) the exported EDL or XML should reference the new timecode — the timecode you have in the .cine files. Though I haven’t used this technique to fix the exact problem you’re having, I have used it for similar issues. So I can’t guarantee that it will work, but it should.If I can help you or your editor further via email or a conference call, I’d be glad to do it. I’m pretty sure I owe you one…

Your dual boot setup does leave the question though as to whether the 8.2 update itself is causing the issue in Snow Leopard. It would be interesting to see what happens if you updated the 8.1 snow leopard install to 8.2. I don’t want you to wreck your system though. Two other things we do have in common is the removal of the power management next and the graphics card – I’m using a flashed 470 as well. I have another partition set up with Lion I may try it there and see what happens.

Please consider the exporting of Resolve tracking data a feature request. Even if it is not 3D scene data but simple 2D tracking information it would be extremely useful. Mocha Pro is a fantastic tracker, but the tracker in Resolve is incredibly fast – much faster than Mocha, AE, etc. The speed and accuracy of the Resolve tracker could be a valuable tool in a compositing pipeline.
