FWIW I do this all the time with an A1, I uncheck the make new clip on TC break and just use capture now. It will still make new clips on occasion, but it captures everything including TC and it’s pretty simple to just re-name the clips and re-load them in the browser.
This is something you have to do anyway if you get FCP 6.0.2 and start using the ProRes FW capture, You’ll get over it.

The fields are identical. FCP does the same thing with 30p from a Canon or panasonic camera. You still have a progressive look, and you can always deinterlace it later.

Old-school workaround till you get your wish, get a copy of BigTime from Digital Heaven, makes it really easy to take TC notes on the fly, I do it all the time.

Who cares if it starts a rumor? I wasn’t complaining, just pointing out that what might seem like a mistake, oversight or shortcoming is not something that can’t be worked around. Apple rushes lots of things to market, because FCP or any of their products will never be finished. That’s why there’s always going to be patches and updates.

Unless you’re going back to HDV, why work in HDV? Rendering native Firewire HDV to say 8 bit or ProRes takes nowhere near the time it takes to conform.
And yes, export a movie for Compressor. Going from FCP to Compressor can take many times as long as using a QT movie.

I captured 40 minutes of footage from one tape today using the ProRes firewire option, what I discovered is that it makes a new clip on every camera start/stop. So I just let it rip and it finished in just over real time, then it took me less than an hour to go through each clip and either toss it or name it, there were about 40 clips. then I just tossed all the master clips from the browser and dragged all the re-named clips in. Done.
Honestly this worked out fantastic, and didn’t take any longer than having a log and capture window. So although it may have been rushed to market, it can still be used on a practical basis.

Whatever happened to Microcosm? It made a big splash a few years ago, but I don’t see it anymore. It was specifically made for archiving as I recall.

The easiest way, which is what you asked, is to throw away the original logo file or just put it in a different folder somewhere, name the new clip exactly the same and reconnect
your media to that. Doesn’t matter what changes you made to it, except if the size or shape is drastically different you may have to adjust a few keyframes.I do this all the time.

I use the QuickTime audio recording function with an iMic USB fixture, I just plug in my camera mic. It is painless and quick.
