Has anyone tried on-the-fly ProRes 422 transcoding via firewire from the Canon XH A1 to FCP 6.02?
I noticed the release notes mention this as a new feature for certain easy setups but it seems unclear if it would work with the easy setup recommended for the Canon cameras.
Very interested to hear the result.
Thanks in advance for any info.

    Curt,

Working on an A1 project as we speak, I will do a test this morning, I have not been able to capture to ProRes up till now, this will be huge if I can… Stay tuned…

    Have a wonderful day.

Working in FCP 6.0.2 in Tiger 10.4.11 on a G5 2 gig PC tower still no ProRes capture by any means that I can find. Sorry.

    Have a wonderful day.

It WORKS! On my G5, don’t understand it, have to fiddle around with it a bit more, but it works! I will report back later on the details but IT WORKS!!!

    Have a wonderful day.

Great news Chris! Thanks for trying it and reporting back.
This camera has really caught my eye, especially after seeing footage.
How do you like the A1?

    Curt,

I have had my A1 since March, I absolutely love it, the only thing I don’t like is the zoom controls, but I have adjusted to them pretty much. Just beautiful pictures.

BTW I looked at the ProRes and HDV captures of the exact same material full size in Quicktime, they are virtually identical, except that the natural size of the ProRes files are 1920×1080!

    Woohoo!

    Have a wonderful day.

    Thanks for the info, Chris.
I’m sure I’ll have more questions after I get mine, hehe.

    Chris,

Can you post the workflow details? I’m finally between projects & ready to upgrade to 6.0.1, would love use this as my workflow with the A1. I would imagine that grading in Prores probably makes this cam even that much more incredible.

    Stu,

I listed the details in another post above, but I’m still fooling around with it, so I will post back. But it works and it’s really cool!

    Have a wonderful day.
