I’ve seen a ton of posts on this. Sorry to add to the massive amount of answers.

I’m capturing HDV via firewire using FCP 6.0.1 and Canon XL H1. It took me three tries to capture my first clip. I had to try to set three different in points until finally it worked just fine.

Now I’m trying to capture a second clip and the camera can’t find the timecode. As it cues up the clip, it literally rolls past the IN by a couple of seconds. Then it goes into search mode and ends up failing. If I’m pass the IN point, the tape rolls back until about 10-15 seconds BEFORE the set IN point and then stops and fails to find the in point.

    Any answers?

TO ADD: Just for testing purposes, I switched the XL H1 to HDV-Downconvert, and by changing my capture settings to DV/NTSC I’m able to capture clips with timecode without any issues.

So, again, why can’t I capture in HDV mode?

    Brian,

FWIW I do this all the time with an A1, I uncheck the make new clip on TC break and just use capture now. It will still make new clips on occasion, but it captures everything including TC and it’s pretty simple to just re-name the clips and re-load them in the browser.

This is something you have to do anyway if you get FCP 6.0.2 and start using the ProRes FW capture, You’ll get over it.

    Have a wonderful day.
