Well, you’re asking a lot from that computer, capturing to ProRes via FW takes some horsepower, so you’re lucky you’re getting anything.

How much RAM is on your iMac? This is a RAM dependent process, even though your lags aren’t that great, but also, there may be a hiccup caused by going to a Windowze server.

Hard drives are so cheap right now, maybe you should get a little SATA RAID.

To see which clips have filters on them, go to Sequence>Settings>Timeline options and check the boxes under Clip Keyframes. Probably want to leave the bottom two unchecked.

The advice on field order is a good place to start. If Compressor isn’t doing this the way you like and you can afford it, Episode Pro does amazing standards conversions. Note that unless you crop the video it can be distorted, but it is minimal.

Just did some follow up checking, Streamclip does not seem to support Real, but Episode Pro does. With it, you could convert to an FCP friendly codec.

See if MpegStreamclip supports Real, not sure. It is a great conversion app, and it’s free!

Yes, there are many answers. Flash players seem to be the most common among Macs and PCs, for that reason I switched all the movies on my site to Flash. Video2SWF is a great little converter, cheap too.

But, another solid answer is to put up choices for people, such as QT, SWF and WMV, then all can have a view without the fuss of downloading a plugin and installing.

I use NetNation to host an ftp, clients love it and it works great. A 25 meg wmv takes about 8 minutes to upload and download.

This job is set up as SD 8bit uncompressed, no downconvert. My settings are 8 bit uncompressed easy setup. This whole rig used to work great before my recent Ex made me sell the house, thereby forcing a studio move, and it’s never been the same since the move. Damit.
