BTW if your client can use an SWF file there’s a great little app called Video2SWF which is 45 dollars. Perfect? No, but it works quite well when you get the settings right.

On your Samsungs, the 24″ were really cheap at Costco last month, just a thought, and on your speakers, listen to the Rokit5’s from KRK, half the price of the Genelecs.
The rest looks great, but the advice about the RAID is good, look at a few in that price range. I’ve had great luck with the Firmtec, going on 2 years.

You are correct. The only advantage to going with the 10 bit is that your graphics and text will look better, ’cause they get re-rendered in 10 bit.

Well, two things, if the material on the disc was truly a copyright violation to copy, then you’re stuck. If not, there are other methods to get around encryption besides Handbrake. (Odd, that name congers up scenes of Emergency!, which is another name for that thing in cars.)
When you capture from a disc player through a deck to some NLEs or third party capture software, encryption is sometimes not detected. Remember though, if it is protected, you stand liable for violations.
I don’t remember seeing this mentioned in your thread, but have you tried MpegStreamclip to export from the VOB files on the disk? Don’t know if it will see the encryption or not, worth a try as it’s free.

What Nick said, plus that a decent mixer gives you control over EQ coming in and going out. I have ad agency clients who would crap on the floor without those options.

Video dimensions vary, but are standard. NTSC is either 720×486 or 720×480 DV. HD comes in many sizes, 720p and 1080i are most common, at 1280×720 and 1920×1080 respectively. These sizes are in pixels.
Note that in different formats, these two can be 960×720 and 1440×1080, but these will always display properly in their respective projects.
Go by the top numbers for your Keynote sizes.

The A1 is persnickety, it requires you do the following. Turn on the camera in vcr mode, WITHOUT the FW connected. In the first menu, set the playback standard to HDV, it defaults to Auto. Then, plug in the FireWire, launch FCP use whatever easy setup you want, doesn’t matter, open FCP’s audio/video settings and select HDV FireWire for device control and either HDV or HDV to ProRes for your format.
Launch the capture tool, you will get a different one depending on your selected format. Go nuts.
