    Hello,
I am caught in an exporting nightmare. I am not sure where I mis-steped but lets retrace

I created slideshow in Keynote with slides 1024X 768
I exported the slideshow to QT with Format Full Quality, Large, Video Compressor: H.264, Video Size 1024X768, FPS=24
I did my edits to music in FCP
    and now I am stuck….
When I export (QT, QT uncompressed, QT h.264, to compressor (and then to DVD or QT again) the result is HORRID. It is grainy and pixelated.

The purpose of the video is to be played on a basic Dell laptop. I am open to the file being played as a QT movie or DVD movie…what ever it takes that it looks clear and not the pixel madness I have.

    PLEASE PLEASE assist!
    Thanks

    Jennifer,

H.264 is not an editing codec, it’s a web delivery codec. You should have output to something like DV50, DVCProHD, or ProRes for your editing. Plus, you’re recompressing it and it’s not meant to hold up to recompression.

    Thank you,
I just found out (thanks to your post) my coworkers who recomended this format (H.264) is because his videos are being played off a computer not a DVD and the older models can not handle large video files. My project can be played with a DVD on the laptop I mentioned.

If I need to go from Keynote to FCP to DVD
Please what would you specifically recomend on the different levels
    Keynote –
Final Cut – Send to compressor or QT?
    If Compressor – Settings?

    Thanks

    Keynote to DV50 to FCP

Export a self-contained QT at current settings via Export>Quicktime Movie.

Import to Compressor use the Best 90-min DVD preset

Use that to make a DVD in DVDSP, or if its for playing off a laptop now’s the time to make an h.264 file.

Along with proper exporting like mentioned you should also change the keynote project properties to a standard video format dementions. You said yours are set to 1024×768 that is a computer monitor resolution. The video will look better on DVD if comes from a standard video format size in Keynote.

I love useing keynote to make graphics and simple animations for video projects. And because I work in HD I just use Keynotes preset sizes and they always look great.

Please forgive my ignorance I am new to the whole resolution, size, etc issues. My deskmate says that video dimensions are all well and good but they are never the same. It depends what you are outputing to.
I really am open to learn. When you say Video demensions what would that be exactly?

    Thanks

Video dimensions vary, but are standard. NTSC is either 720×486 or 720×480 DV. HD comes in many sizes, 720p and 1080i are most common, at 1280×720 and 1920×1080 respectively. These sizes are in pixels.

Note that in different formats, these two can be 960×720 and 1440×1080, but these will always display properly in their respective projects.

Go by the top numbers for your Keynote sizes.

    Have a wonderful day.
