    Hi Adam,

I already have a Decklink SP, and I’ve been really happy with it, but I am facing a similar decision on the brink of HD in some iteration. From what I’ve seen, the Kona card offers a couple of feaures the BM does not, the biggest of which is upres capability. I saw it at NAB and it is just awesome.

I’m talking to Promax about all this, and their recommendation is the Kona 2, the Kbox and an iola. On the AJA forum, people swear buy this setup.

There’s a really stunning HD monitor from Sony that will blow you away quality-wise, it’s only 17″ but just stunning. Plus it has vga and component inputs. Best part is it’s only $549 at Fry’s

    Trevor,

There are a ton of people in here who do what you suggest. Some have several camcorders they get cheap on Ebay in case one fails. This a perfectly sensible workflow. That is, as long as the camera is controlable via Firewire.

Never mind, I got it to work. Just found out about the control surface settings under tools.

    Hey Thax,

This is good to know, not real savvy with iTunes. How do you get a hold of the files, drag them out of the iTunes library?

BTW, as a side benefit, Compression Master 3 makes great mp3s, fast!

    Rob,

I found out this morning that to activate the BCF in FCP since my re-install, I had to go under tools>control surfaces and click the + button and select the mackie control. So all works again, perfectly.

This was a little confusing because in Soundtrack Pro, the control panel for this is under Prefs.

    Hey Wally,

It seems my problems with a clean install, which I did for the second time after the Tiger Upgrade ultimately failed, had to do with a SCSI drive going bad. I moved my new project to my backup drives and it worked great. So far testing on older projects has worked fine, knock on wood…

  • Will,

Well, my backup drive IS a FW800 RAID! Seems solid so far on new and old projects. Been testing since late this morning, seems solid. One older project caused FCP to quit on a 5 minute render, repeatedly. Seemed okay on new projects tho.
