Assuming you’re getting a G5 the card that comes in it (5800 I think?) seems more than adequate. Even for Motion.

Hey Dan,

I recently exported a Quicktime movie with QT conversion from a 29.97 timeline, and I was positive about all my settings, and that movie info from QT read 10 fps! That very same movie went into After Effects and was exported as a new movie from a 29.97 project and that movie info from QT read 30 fps!

Both movies are doing there respective jobs, the second movie is happily playing in another 29.97 FCP sequence. So if it makes you feel less nervous, I’ve seen many dicrepancies like this in QT info. Another one is some mpegs for DVDSP read 640×480 and I know darn well they are 720×480. Go figure.

Rich,

I don’t have FCP opwn right at the moment but as I recall you just put the footage in a 4×3 sequence and open the clip in the viewer, and go into the motion tab under distort, and I think you just distort it 33%. Anyways you will see when the proportion is right in the canvas.

Hey Rich,

You can shoot it wide enough so that you can crop it in a 4×3 sequence, or you could letterbox it. Unless you have a bunch of graphics that you want to preserve the quality on, just do it all DV. The size for graphics if you do DV is 864×480.

Third vote from me. 5.0.2 is just solid as a rock, along with everything else running just as well, AE 6.5.1 included.

I think FCP quit once in over 2 months. Otherwise, every bit as solid as 4.5 in Panther.

There are a few ways to do this. If you are working over footage it can get a little complicated. If over a still, much easier. You would draw you route as an illustrator or Photoshop layer and in FCP use the crop tool to wipe it on over time.

Also,

Eureka’s jiggle filter has a black frame feature which you can use without the jiggle.
