Those images you are using are WAY too big. It’s overkill, and the fact you are not having flickering or over-long render times is an exception not the rule. My method of optimzing images is at 72 dpi and no bigger than absolutely necessary for pans and scans and zooms. Usually I’ll go twixe the frame size. FCP will love you for it.

Everything I’ve heard about Firewire hubs is bad. You can just daisy chain the drives together. I would be smart however to install a Firewire PCI or whatever card so you have more than one bus.

I had a similar problem not long ago and I traced it to a corrupt media file. I replaced the file and it would render.

No, you can’t do that, without a 3rd party software like DVDxDV. But you can capture DVD footage from a regular DVD player routed through your deck with un-controllable device.

FYI it’s moire. And depending on the amount of it it can be tough to get rid of, short of masking the shirt and bluring.
