I wouldn’t use them for video, BUT the latest ones are USB 2.0 which is a little faster than FW400.

You need to download the firewire sdk from apple (where dvhscap resides)

Then capture your clips and run them through the free and very powerful mpeg streamclip software.

You can convert to any format quickly, effectively, and best of all for free.
    🙂

There’s a brand new sony cmos hdv camera that was just announced and it has the HDMI out.

I’m not sure if hdmi out live will bypass the compression.

On the storage I’m not sure either.

You may still run into issues if your graphics vertical height
    is larger than 540.

    yes exactly.

HDMI is being touted as the prosumer version of HD-SDI.

[Paul from Apple] “Our Universal Final Cut Studio crossgrade/upgrade program ENDS at the end of the year!”

I own final cut studio 5.x
what does this really mean for final cut 5.02 users?

that the 49 upgrade will be a lot more next year?

I would love to upgrade and I do own the HD100-U but I also have clients that bring in projects that need to be run through us and they are not running 5.1

You don’t need raid at all for Varicam if you edit in DVCPRO-HD right?

    It all works over firewire.

bars and tone on a uv meter that register zero
(the first red line on a betacam uv-1800 deck)

Read as -20 on a digital betacam.

Everything thats ever come in here from New York to Hollywood has been this way.

Though occasionally we get odd tones that are not anywhere close to being helpful in which case I set things manually, not to exceed -10 on average with an absolute ceiling of -6.

    my 002 cents
