  • The alpha channel itself shrinks about 1 to 2 pixels.
This is if you do any kind of cutting on the animation, if you don’t cut it at all its fine.

we had to retime some stuff and found it much quicker to just make the adjustment in final cut, but each time we did, the graphics would shrink just a little (1 to 2 pixels)

someone mentioned the animation codec can cause this in fcp 5.x

I know you don’t like hard drives but lots of folks are using them for archiving.

We use the 500GB Western Digital External “My Book Drives”
you can get them now for 250 at newegg(dot)com

I use it to burn the video_ts folder but I wouldn’t rely on it
for creating a dvd from video.

  • I keep hearing that the alpha channel with ANIMATION doesn’t work so well in FCP if you have to do any cutting or trimming of the file. You get a 2 pixel shaved off the alpha which looks really bad.

the NONE or PNG should not be a problem.

BlackMagic support is usually very quick (within hours)

  • can you nest the 16×9 timeline in a 4×3 timeline?

  • Yeah I’ve found any kind of scaling up or down to be awful in FCP.

  • The best way, would be with Digital Anarchy’s Resize plugin.
It’s very cheap for what it does.

A free way would be dropping the footage in a 16×9 comp in
after effects and scaling it to 133%. Though you may see some
    aliasing.

You shouldn’t have to change anything in my experience.

Just do it and it will work.

I had an issue VERY similar to this with the Sony HDCAM field deck.

It was somehow set to output PAL even though the tape was NTSC and the deck would not switch over. I also had no audio coming out.

MAKE SURE and double check the menu on the deck or do a reset to default if you can.

I bet there is a setting that is not right and thats whats causing it.
