6400 = 6.4mbps
that should work well.
set the GOP to 5 or 4 (not the higher 15 number)
this will boost the quality a little but make the files a bit larger. -

well to be fair it exists in JVC & Panasonic’s world.
Canon’s as well soon.
But I’d give BlackMagic a break as well. They make great products.
Your more likely to get a quick response if you email their support directly.

But I did get it to work.
I converted it using mpeg streamclip.
You might try it out, its free and amazingly powerful and high quality.
A very robust tool I couldn’t live without.

I’ve got the HUGE 1.2TB array and love it.
It utilizes 4gb fibre-channel. It’s been rock solid reliable since day one.but the 4105 might be overkill for your purposes.

you shouldn’t convert to DV then mpeg2, that would make it look worse.
How long is the show?
What bitrate are you set for?
You generally don’t want to exceed 7mbps for the video
and make sure your compressing your audio to Dolby Digital
at 256kbps or possibly lower. This will make a good picture and ensure you have no skipping
on the dvd player due to the bitrate being too high.Recordable media doesn’t have the error correction that replicated media has thats why the bitrate should stay at 7mbps max.

If your client or whomever is getting the Digibeta, make sure they want it letterboxed.
If it’s being made for eventual DVD compression they might actually want it left as anamorphic.

[debe] “…and from now on, do your cutaways on a separate track above the main track. Makes it much easier to slide them around and remove them all together without having to futz with the main track every time there’s a tiny change.”
That sounds kinda like the old A / B track editing.
is that what it is essentially?

August 23, 2006 at 10:43 pm in reply to: What’s the fastest way to import footage with an Alpha Channel ?To answer the question and I have not tried this but I do have a Quad G5 and Blackmagic hardware as well.
You could try rendering the sequence as a BMD-10-bit mov then ONLY render the alpha channel again as a BMD-10-bit, then use that as your alpha or track matte in fcp..
If the transparency works, then it should play with no rendering.

August 23, 2006 at 10:42 pm in reply to: What’s the fastest way to import footage with an Alpha Channel ?ok, I noticed some weirdness with the animation codec in fcp 5.04 yesterday.
we had some motion graphics from after effects with text overlaying a background image through an alpha channel.
The timing of the text coming up needed to be changed, so rather than go back an spend a ton of time retiming re-rendering in AE we tried to cut the animation footage to a frame then hold it for a few seconds.
What would happen when it played was the text would shrink 2 pixels on the paremeter, whenever it would show the still.
Obviously that looks bad so we had to retime everything AE.
Are you saying that the NONE codec alpha channel won’t mess up like the ANIMATION codec does?
