Everytime I compress my FCP film and then burn it with Toast it winds up jerky when played on a TV. (Not on the computer). I did it once, and got a good size full size file and everything went well. I tried a myriad of ways to get around that – I have tried burning the large full size QT/FCP coversion – the one with the little logo of each – to no avail. I have tried compressing to DV NTSC PRO and still nothing.
I don’t think it’s Toast because I have succeeded once.
I have NO idea how to do it in Compressor 2.0.1 and my FCP is 5.0.4.
Can anyone tell me HOW to get the final movie file to DVD in it’s pristine state please?
    Thanks
    Adrienne

you shouldn’t convert to DV then mpeg2, that would make it look worse.

    How long is the show?

What bitrate are you set for?

You generally don’t want to exceed 7mbps for the video
and make sure your compressing your audio to Dolby Digital
    at 256kbps or possibly lower.

This will make a good picture and ensure you have no skipping
on the dvd player due to the bitrate being too high.

Recordable media doesn’t have the error correction that replicated media has thats why the bitrate should stay at 7mbps max.

In Final Cut, go to the FILE manu and pick EXPORT > COMPRESSOR.

What you have to do is drag the compression you want from one window onto your video file in another window.

It’s possible to make your own, but scroll through the pre-made Apple ones. You’ll probably find something that fits. Drag the video compression over and then find the “DOLBY 2.0” audio compression and drag that over too.

Pick the destination folder for all that and hit ‘submit.’ You’ll get an audio and a video file that you just import into DVD Studio Pro.

There’s a ton of ways to customize this and get exactly what you need, but I’d just start with the pre-sets and see if they make you happy.

the bitrate is 6400, or I maded it automatic.

If you could tell me the best:

    Frame Rate
    Key Frames
Data rate -(I don’t understand the 7bps – where is that?)
    Sound – 16Bit?

    Thanks for your help

    6400 = 6.4mbps

    that should work well.

set the GOP to 5 or 4 (not the higher 15 number)
this will boost the quality a little but make the files a bit larger.
