    HI:

I just bought a hard drive called “My Book”. 500gigs. And when I capture files to this external drive, it automatically cuts the video into 2megs size files. This is disconcerning for me, because I am often forced to transfer files to other drives and because the the files are broken up, I run into difficulty when I try and reconnect the media in FCP. Is their anyway I can avoid having this drive cut up the files like this? I have a LACIE external drive and it doesn’t do this? But who can beat the look of “MY Book”. So cute!

    Thanks.

The drive needs to be formatted Mac OS Extended or you’ll get the file sizes cut down… Use Apple’s drive utility for the reformatting.

Aren’t these “MyBook” external drives only USB2 and not FW?

If so, USB is not considered a suitable transfer path for FCP video.

FW is only barely approved by Apple.

No, they are firewire. Apple sells them in the Apple store. I saw them and just looked them over.

Nothing is gonna replace my G-tech drives.

I wouldn’t use them for video, BUT the latest ones are USB 2.0 which is a little faster than FW400.

USB drives shouldn’t be used for media don’t think…. the bus is fast enough but the bridge chipsets aren’t.
