I got another funny problem.
When I EXPORT QUICKTIME from my DVCPRO HD 1080i50 timeline, after that I reimport the exported Clip and place on the same timeline, it wouldn’t play!
Check settings and the only difference is the clip size is now 1920×1080 which is wrong and should be 1440×1080.
Checking the clip using Quicktime COMMAND-I show that it is however, 1440×1080! Seems like upgrading to 5.1.4 of FCP cause this error, cause the same project in 5.1.3 was ok when I exported the clip.
Using Decklink Extreme PCIe and Macpro.

Actually i think this can be easily solve.
You need to adjust the RS422 control, what is happening is that the video are cutting in too early, 1 frame too early infact and your FCP has not even start to play the video.
CMD-OPT-Q at FCP and select “Device Control Presets”, create a new Preset and adjust it’s “Playback Offset” until you get frame accuracy.
I recommend tick “Use Deck Search Mechanism” also.
This probably occurs because the RS422 cable and the video cables are of significant different lengths in the facility.
Good luck!

February 4, 2007 at 5:43 pm in reply to: Composite Output from DeckLink HD Extreme? If you are lazy to unhook the COMPONENT then do following…
1. If video is DV then: Firewire to DV camera -> DV Camera Composite -> VHS
2. If video is SD then: Down convert to DV in FCP by nesting original edit into DV timeline, go to step 1.
3. If video is HD then: Goto to step 2.

Just to share what I am currently doing.
Here in Singapore, a 320GB Seagate SATA II hardisk cost just $162 or about US$110. My client shoot DVCPRO HD into the Firestore 100, so one 320GB hardisk can store 3 times the data. I told them, what they save in tapes, they have to spent on hardisk to backup.
After their backup to the hardisk, I will ingest the data into FCP and then store the hardisk somewhere safe. In this case, we would have a “ingested” copy and also a backup copy at all times.
After the completion of the project, we can decide whether we want to keep the backup rushes or reuse the hardisk.
My only wish is to have the hardisk like some sort of “write-protect” slider like on a tape where it will prevent the hardisk from accidentally being erased.

Why don’t you use FCP Rescue to store FCP’s settings. That way if anything goes wrong, you can just RESTORE the settings.
FCP Rescue is a free utility, Google it, should be easy to find.

Check if you got this Quicktime component installed: “PopwireWMV-9Export.component”.
It is found in your “/Library/Quicktime/”
Removing it might solve the problem.
Let us know if this method works.

How about for Decklink Extreme (SD)?

I agree, the video resolution when i played back from composite and S-Video connection from my BetacamSP really sucks on this 24″ monitor. However, using FCP DVI-D, it is actually much better.

Thanks. Will read the notes and update.
