Personally, I don’t know of any book that covers all of that. I subscribe to TV Technology Magazine, Video Systems Magazine, Broadcast Management and Engineering Magazine, and The new Creative Cow magazine. Other than that you have come to “The Right Source” The Cow is a wealth of information. Just ask lots of questions, and never feel that a question is too dumb to ask, the only dumb question is the one not asked.

If you don’t need a lot of tracks, this is a nice way of looking at a shot over the narration, inteview, or just natural sound. I do it a lot with no real purpose, other than it is easy to take out a shot by lift, overwrite, and the track under remains intact, it is also easy to do sample cuts back and forth and if the cuts don’t work, you haven’t actually done anything. No real purpose behiond this method, other than for me I found it convenient. I even sometimes work with three tracks and by moving the track view up and down I can see which track I prefer at any given moment. Hope this helps.

This is a nice feature, but I still have problems with it, for instance I do a split, then mark the tracks to delete the area ahead of the split, and invariably it sets a loop of one frame instead of deleting the tracks. That loop marking being so prevelant is always getting in my way.

Just to put my 2 cents worth in. I have Avid, Vegas, and Premiere Pro. I use Avid and Vegas for almost everything. I have hardly used my Premiere at all, to this point.

Along this line, I create my DVD’s with VBR 8M maximum, 6M average, and have never had a complaint about playability.
Personally I have always felt, show the average Joe Blow a VHS playback and a Beta playback and he would not really be able to tell the difference, but I am not going to start using VHS for my acquisition or normal playback options.Charlie

White paint on a black card works well too. The first time I did that was in the 1960’s. Dang if it doesn’t still work. Loved to make a paint wipe for those Horror movie promos. Just took a black card at an angle and poured paint across the top and let it run down, but I have to admit the last time I didn’t have any white paint so used yellow on black.
