I have never done work at a discount. My rate is my rate, and will continue to be my rate. Based on hours worked. If I am not doing anything but my equipment is, I can’t do a full job so teh rate is the same as if I am working. Only exceptiion is if there is a time such as sleeping at night that I could set up an overnight render adn teh client is aware that it is done that way at a discount, then a discount is practical. The only exception has always been if I am really involved with a charitable organization, then I will give my work for free as a labor of love, but then too that is also tax deductable. The low budget projects, don’t take as much time to do which is how they are low budget.
Never ever put something into a reel that was not for an actual client, it implies that you did their work when in reality you did not. that is unethical at the absolute least and could be unlawful if the production comapny who does their work wants to sue you.Charlie

January 23, 2006 at 11:03 pm in reply to: Simultaneous Digbeta Clone and Beta Dubs issueNot sure if I am really on track here, (been awhile for me) but lets see if I can at least give some idea that will start to make sense.
My first thought is that the loop through which is from digital in to analog out is using the confidence head for the output. This would make it difficult for the machine to output the audio from all 4 channels since two channels are played back from the playback video heads. Again this is only a wild guess, but recording from teh confidence heads would add a delay to the video playback compared to sync.Does any of this make any sense at all? Been 10 years since I was working with a system similar to what you are describing.

Chaz,
I think this goes along with the old saying I love so much. “Hire the inexperienced, they have not yet learned, you can’t do that.”Charlie

I convert my Avid files into QT Animation codec, uncompressed best quality. So far that works very well for me importing to Vegas. It is nice to see that I am not the only person doing this.

It is not unusual to loop the mic cable under the clip to take strain off the connection of the cable to the mic. I think this is mostly what you are possibly seeing.

[tony salgado] “Anyone who is daring enough to ask a stupid question has made the first step to enlighten themselves”
[tony salgado] “No one should ever fear asking a question instead never learning the answers is a greater tragedy in itself.”I have always said the only stupid question is the one not asked, because the person needing the information is too embarrassed to look stupid. You end up looking much more stupid when you fail to ask questions.
[tony salgado] “Many years later when I was in the position of answering questions instead of asking them I recalled the responsibility I had to pass on the knowledge gained from those before me.”
And after over 40 years in the business, I still ask qustions, along with the fun and rewarding part of answering those I know at least part of the answer to. We honestly never totally know the complete answer to anything.

[grinner] ” I jumped straight up outta the chair more than once with a loud “kick ass!””
Yeh, I fully understand the feeling you are saying. Then you get teh project finished, you finally turn it loose. Days later you see it either broadcast or however it was intended to be used, and you keep saying to youself, “damn, if I had only done this, it would be so much better.”
I have always said if I was ever totally completely satisfied with a project I had done, it was time to quit, cause undoubtedly my standards of quality had gone down.I love this game we play. It can be so fulfilling, and at times depressing, but the good times far outweigh the bad.
