How do I create a paint splatter effect?
Posted by Janeee on January 25, 2006 at 5:57 pmI need to create some kiddy style paint splatters and splodges in after effects 6.5. Is there a plugin I can download to acheive a realstic effect? It would be good to have the paint splatter running down the screen after impact.
Thanks!

January 25, 2006 at 6:48 pmFrankly, I’ve had the best results by throwing white paint onto a black surface, then compositing different takes. I clamped a piece of low-glare glass to a piece of foam core and hurled paint at it.

January 25, 2006 at 8:43 pmWhite paint on a black card works well too. The first time I did that was in the 1960’s. Dang if it doesn’t still work. Loved to make a paint wipe for those Horror movie promos. Just took a black card at an angle and poured paint across the top and let it run down, but I have to admit the last time I didn’t have any white paint so used yellow on black.

January 26, 2006 at 8:53 amI hate to post this because I think pratical effects produce way better results. But….
You could do this simply by creating bezier masks on a coloured solid. Keyframing the Mask Expansion, from a negative amount to 100% over a couple of frames will give up a splatt. And of coure, you won’t get covered in paint splashes.
Not as much fun, but no clearing up to do.
