—-ok…more information. I just ‘imported’ one file from the original material on the internal hardrive. I then checked the ‘containing folder’ and its is using the original one on the internal hardrive. ..i.e. it did not create a separate folder..it did not dump it into the ‘imported media’ folder.
So it would appear when i imported the EX files using ‘device explorer’ (which is the only way i could figure out how to do a batch import of the ex files) it creates a separate media folder. Now…some of you may be reading this and saying…’of course it does’… but i had no idea. is there no way to do a ‘batch import’ of multiple EX1 files from a folder…internal or external drive…using the straight ‘import media’ feature?
If this is the case and i need to use ‘device explorer’ to do the import it seems my best approach would be to put the EX files on an external hardrive and use device explorer to batch import..that way i avoid having duplicates on my internal hardrive…..
If anyone sees a workaround on this I’d love to hear about it.. -
….i’ve had a closer look at this ….the file folder they are in…is called ‘imported media’….don’t ever recall creating this folder. It seems to contain all the media for two separate projects i am working on.
Perhaps i also need to clarify something… I shoot on an EX1…I dumped all the material into a ‘folder’ which also happened to be on my internal hardrive… so when i did the ‘import’ i pointed the ‘device explorer’ to that particular folder and it then ‘imported’ those files to my Vegas project…it has to be said that it did take quite some time for the import to happen…
As I’m writing this I’m now thinking that maybe using EX1 files in this way …forces Vegas to actually create/import a whole other set of copies…?? Is there a way around this… is there no way Vegas can simply use the EX1 files that are on my internal hardrive?
when i right clicked on one of the video files and went to ‘explore containing folder’ it took me to the extra folder that was created…not the folder where i had originally stored the EX1 files. -
i have been doing a lot of ‘saving’—essentially using one project as the template…then editing a different version and renaming it…could that be what is going on…and if so is there a way to stop Vegas from ‘blindly’ saving/duplicating…?
thanks for getting back on this so quickly.. -
Thanks for this….good to know if i need to modify.
appreciate the tip!! -
yes….i meant…’vegas does’.. Really appreciate you pointing this out….in fact I had zoomed in to an edit recently and saw a small audio dissolve…and i knew i hadn’t added a video dissolve..i just figured it was a slip of the finger…so this explains it!
very useful little feature… -
actually….no…i’m not hearing clicks. I figured it was simply because the audio was meshing together ok…sometimes it does..and sometimes it doesn’t so with AVID i used the ‘audio dissolve’ technique in between most cuts…
So you are saying that for any basic cut Avid automatically inserts the audio dissolve? …thats incredible…. -
Quick update…..i took your advice and switched project settings to Widescreen PAl (DV). Did a quick edit mixing the material…then rendered as PAL .mov file. No issue/video breakup…. so that seems to be the answer….and a very simple solution..
many thanks.. -
Thanks for this…very useful. I also worked out another potential solution.
This is a one off project and doesn’t involve a great deal of material so it might work.
For the 24p ntsc material… i simply edit in a separate 60i timeline…(although if you think pal is better i can do 50i) then i render that timeline as a PAl mp4 file.for the 60i material i edit in a 50i timeline and ‘import’ the mp4 material (that was originally 24p) and just use it to edit as normal. It seems to work and when i render out the final product as quicktime .mov file (pal) which is what i need…it looks quite good and does not have any breakup between what was the 24p material and the 60i material.
does this make any sense?
much appreciate the advice!!! -
Thanks very helpful John… I managed to remap fine… push of one button and dissolve is removed!
Another issue i forgot to raise…Audio Dissolves…. in Avid you can highlight a whole track of audio and insert a short audio dissolve over every single edit—very useful for taking out any clicks and makes for a nice smooth track.
Is there a way of achieving this in Vegas? I’ve tried to insert an audio dissolve in between audio tracks but not having any luck.
