[Xavier Paredes] “3. What encoding tool do you recommend for creating the Flash file. (I have access to both Mac and PC but would prefer to stay on Mac if possible).”
I would try Sorenson Squeeze if you can get your hands on it.
[Xavier Paredes] “1. I’m wondering if it makes any sense to convert the footage back to 24fps. I believe this would be called inverse telecine. Corrrect?”
As for converting the footage back to 24FPS I would say don’t worry about it.I don’t think it will give you any extra advantage. Usually most of the programs that compress video for the web will have a de-interlace feature that will remove the interlace lines associated with the 3:2 pulldown from the original film to digibeta transfer.

Are you trying to move your media files or the program files associated when you instal Final Cut?

[Paco Sweetman] “Is there not a way to do a workaround without an external hard drive. The amount of media is about 250GB. The offline media is only about 17GB.”
just copy the offline media and the project file to your mac pro then.. That should work fine as well.. The key thing to remember is just to be sure that both computers have the exact media.

What xdcam format and framerate was the footage acquired at and what xdcam setting did you import it as..

Try trashing your preferences and reboot FCP

[Tucker Quenette] “Trying to get FCP6 on my laptop to capture off a deck as a non-controllable device AND maintain the timecode on the deck.”
That’s not possible.. you cannot acquire time code without some kind of machine control i.e firewire, rs422 or rs232. The machine control is what transfers the time code track from your tape to FCP.

[Paco Sweetman] “I want to be able to take it on my laptop when I’m away from my Macpro to work on it, and then update back onto the Macpro when I’m back. I’d like to be able to do this as much as possible.”
The easiest way to accomplish this is to copy all the media that you have on the mac pro to an external drive as an exact copy of what’s on the mac pro. If you update something on the mac pro.. say for e.g you add some music and a photoshop file then you should do the same thing on the external.. If you keep everything exactly the same on both the external and mac pro media drive. you can simply exchange only the project files between computers and all the media will re-link.
