I had the same problem using an 800 to 400 six pin cable with a Panasonic AJ-HD1400. I ended up going another route. I would be curious to find out as well. Please let us know the Model of the Sony Deck you’re using

[Joel Arvidsson] “What do you do to get HD to sd”
My first question is where are you intending to play this, broadcast, web, DVD
Lately I’ve been using compressor and getting great results with the default settings but it also gives you the ability to go in an tweak with to your needs. Check out this screen shot from the Standard definition settings and see which one works best for you.. from DV to 10 bit uncompressed for both NTSC and PALChad Tingle

September 9, 2010 at 2:48 am in reply to: Downconverting to NTSC from a 720p 59.94 Apple Pro Res sequence[Jeremy Garchow] “You said you setup the control panel, how exactly did you do so? The analog output is in secondary 525i mode and there’s a downconvert icon on the output pipe?”
Jeremy your suggestion to drag the sequence into the browser did the trick and I was able to set the mastering settings and have the show start at hour one like I wanted. One small issue i noticed though is that every time I set my in point in the edit to tape window I ended up with a 2 frame offset. If i set the in point for 00:59:00:00 the in point defaults to 00:59:00:02. any suggestions?
Thanks again for the help it is much appeciated

Bob,
does that mean I should hold out and see what happens before I plunk down on a raid?

If you can get your hands on a DSR 1500 with the SDI option. I feel that would be the best low cost DVCAM deck for your workflow. You might be able to purchase one at a steal these days or as someone suggested look for a rental. Since you’re going to broadcast, Capturing SDI while you up convert would give you a bump in quality versus going in composite or S Video.

I’ll Put it like this.. As the projects get bigger you’re going to require the computer to do more. A Mac Pro is better because it’s a machine you can grow into. If you can only afford 8 gigs of ram right now, I would buy a machine that can support 16 or 32 because eventually you will need it.As you start making films and documentaries you might need a capture card and as you start doing motion graphics your graphics card needs to be able to handle programs like motion and aftereffects. You don’t have to max out the machine right now.. START with a MAC PRO at the price point you can afford but buy with expansion in mind. The Imacs with I7s are great but they’ll max out a lot sooner and you might find yourself in another purchasing decision before you’re ready.

Can be done manually by duplicating the clips and using the mask shape tool under fiters menu. The tool allows you to shape clips vertically or horizontally.
