    David,

I was able to download the codec from Avid’s website but I’m a bit lost on how to get compressor to recognize them.

Well said neil.. I agree 100%.. people are forgetting that a 1000.00 piece of software allowed a lot of them to be able to go into business for themselves.

  • [Brian DeViteri] “Have you tried AJA TV to just see if the BetaSP deck can get a video signal in? Have another SD source (or HD deck with downconvert) to just check to see if the deck doesn’t have an issue accepting a signal? I have one BetaSP deck that has now become a player only instead of a player/recorder.”

    Brian,

Thanks for getting back to me. I normally dump HD stuff to beta using footage at 1080sf 23.98. I went back and changed my frame buffer and set the kona to downconvert like I normally do when I’mastering tv spots to beta sp and it works like a charm. I also have the beta deck set to E t E so it acts a loop through to my sd monitor so I can always monitor the output of what the Beta SP is recording. Really weird that the downcovert to Beta works fine but I can’t master a pro-res timeline to SD. I will try the Aja tv to see if flys. Thanks again.

[Jim Curtis] “s there an offset setting in FCP to adjust for video delay? There’s a setting in System Preferences > Playback Control > Frame Offset. But, it doesn’t appear to do anything. I can set it to 0 or 30, and I get the same response out of the LHi.”

Go into system settings… Playback control and you will find the frame offset.

I agree with Craig, I think you have to evaluate how much more work it will take to add the extra three minutes and charge accordingly. You shouldn’t have to compromise your time because of their short sightedness

    David,

I’d say all of the above.Directors and Producers generally have a huge say but in todays world where you have agencies that have their own in producers. Not all agencies have an in house producer but a lot of them do. I hope this helps

[Matthew David Ridley] “I’m shooting with a Sony HVR-A1 set to DV SP, then importing to Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 (old school) as DV PAL 48 kHz Anamorphic.”

you’re capturing anamorphic, is your timeline also setup anamorphic? what size would you like to export to?

  • [Nick Stantzos] “I will be loading 1080i DVCPROHD footage for a project to be cut in FCP Studio that will consist of mostly 720px24p footage”

    Nick,

in what format will you be delivering your final master. Will it be 1080i or 720p. Whichever format you have to deliver the project in determines what you should set the FCP sequence to. If you already have a 72024p timeline, simply add the 1080i footage and FCP will scale and convert it to match the 72024p footage in already in your timeline. You can also go the opposite way and create a 1080i sequence then add the 72024p fotoage. all you have to do after that is render.

[Josh Bamber] “I transcoded it using compressor into Apple pro res 422 lt and the file is now over 250gb”

If you’re using final cut pro 7.0 you can use the log and transfer setting to convert to Apple pro res.
