Going back to school is never a bad thing but you have experience so you might want to take the video knowledge you have and try to find a position in a post house or production company that uses these types of software. School is great but again, there is a plethora of information, training DVDs books and other resources that if you supplement it with some real world experience, you might learn a lot more in a shorter amount of time. You might have to start entry level somewhere but at least you would be getting paid to learn…

are you looking for a broacast Monitor or a second computer monitor. I don’t know if you’re working SD or HD but there are a lot of fishes in the sea that are reasonable. it all depends on your individual needs. Do you input and output HD, SD, do you have a need for SDI in and Out, HDMI in and out.. Do you work off analog sources? like betacam sp. If you can tell us about your workflow I can provide you a bunch of options

  • You might want to post this topic in the compression Techniques forum of the Cow. They folks over there are pretty good at solving these kind of scenarios.

[Travis Marshall] “After some testing, I realized that the timecode the deck is displaying and putting down on the tape is free run based on how long the deck has been powered up. If the deck’s been on for 15 minutes it’ll start at 00:15:00,00, etc.”

There should be a setting in the menu that changes the deck’s timecode from free run to rec run

[Travis Marshall] “I’m in Regen mode on the TCG switch, and according to the manual the firewire in should be over-ruling any other timecode generation.”

you are in regen mode but Does the deck give you the ability to set external or internal regen for timecode. If you selected INT regen the deck would generate it’s own timecode but if you want the timecode from the sequence you should set it to EXT regen to slave the timecode from the timeline.

    Ken,

I saw your post on Red User.net so I suppose my suspicions were correct about shooting 4K+HD vs 4k 16:9 or 2:1. If you’re looking for a quick fix I have used the Red Rushes and it batches in a decent amount of time if you have a newer mac pro

I’m running into this problem as well with a client that do some media managemet for. I just posted a red job in september and didn’t have this issue but i think it’s because we used the 4K+HD setting to record vs using the 2:1 setting. To be honest I’m not completely sure that it’s correct answer but I’m doing some research and I’ll let you know as soon as I find out.

October 4, 2010 at 4:32 pm in reply to: LHi SDI Question

[Bill Portune] “are the ones on the card disabled once the KKLHi-box is attached?”

The ones on the card are not disabled, it works in conjunction with the connectors on the back of the box. Even though you connect the multipin cable from the card to the breakout box.. that only gives you the analog Ins,outs and audio in and out. You still have to connect the cables that are marked SDI in and SDI out from the card to the connectors on the back of the breakout box. Or you won’t be able to monitor or capture using the breakout box.

[dominick bowls] “Now when I open my project there is no timeline and it says general error. Does this mean I have to start all over???? or is there some way to get my timeline”

If you set up your autosave when you began the project.. Browse your Meida drive for the folder where the auto save folder is located. You can usually look at them by date and time
