Yeah, I know that. But since I’m doing the bulk of the animation now I need to be able to do the smoothing on the fly along with the velocity changes. So keep going back and baking everytime I change the speed is a no go.

But as I said before, I should have thought better before posting. It was easy.

I rushed to post because I knew if I didn’t figure it out, you’d probably write something better than I ever could, hahaha.

Thanks for taking the time to read anyway!

nevermind, I’m stupid. I can smooth the guide layer prior to passing the value to the actual camera guide layer.

  • [ion popescu] “”quality and sampling” changes to “-” . what’s that about?”

That’s because since its being rasterized, the quality control should be changed in each layer inside the precomp, and not as one for the comp itself.

[ion popescu] “The problem is that one of the precomps appears pixaleted( a bit)”

Maybe its because you’re using a matte for it. Try to turn off track matte for that comp. You should move your mattes inside the precomp, thats how it’s supposed to be done.

And you’re only getting differences in sampling if you’re working in two different resolutions. Why is that? Can’t you unify it? Maybe set it all to your final output and scale the pre-footage to fill the difference?

    Good luck

  • Try to create one null for each axis to avoid any gimbal issues, link X null to Y null and that to Z null…

Your world layer is set to be a guide layer, since you’re overlaying things above it, the blend will only show on its own comp. In order to pass it along, you’ll need to collapse pre-comp1 inside pre-comp3.

This will obviously break your 3d view, unless you duplicate the camera/lights and so on. What you’re seeing in precomp-3 is exaclty what you’ll see in pre-comp 1 if you turn the world layer off.

February 8, 2018 at 12:49 pm in reply to: Cogwheels Problem (doesn’t rotate, only jittering)

The problem is that if you manually rotate the cogwheels, you’ll notice that on the lowest point they would intersect.

That collision is whats causing the bounce back with the rotation. You’re forcing the hinge down, when it can’t go.

You have to use the sampleimage function to drive (in any way you like) the yPosition value of your layers…

    Something like this: 12142_sampleimage.aep.zip

February 7, 2018 at 11:55 am in reply to: 3d layer – Casts Shadow for specific object

I doubt it is a lot of work. You’re probably just not familiarized with copying with relative properties link (to retain animations and changes) and track mattes(to keep interactions). Because you can easily remove each of them from view without losing anything.

Unless you have some very complex blend mode interaction, its a matter of seconds.

If you want an “easier” way, perhaps unprecompose the logo and text to the main composition, and change the text’s cast shadow option. But as I imagine, this will create other issues.

Duplicate the composition both in the project panel and in the Current Main composition, leave the text on one and the logo on the other. Turn of cast shadows for the text’s one.

Nope, there is no pose morph function for After Effects. Specially for mask animation.
