I think formatting should always be done in the camera. I have seen somewhere that computers can leave all kinds of little files on a card. I think delete all clips in the camera is normal procedure so that you do not erase saved profiles etc. But more to the point how can your picture problem be resolved?

Have you checked to see if the card has become locked – little black switch on end of card.

25p/30p depending on country with 180 degree shutter does the trick. Another thread up here somewhere gives the opinion that the client does not see our concerns so don’t worry. Sony EX1/3/350 cameras give fantastic pictures and at reasonable cost.

Worth a try but remember EX1 and EX3 sufs are not compatible. You can dial in values and see what happens. Alister Chapman is probably the man to ask about this.

What is your delivery format criteria? The client/broadcaster may have their own ideas as to what they will take.

I have always doubted the J series of decks for sync. I cannot put my finger on it but offlining with a J3 and then onlining with a real deck has caused sync problems.

  • I am not really technical but managed to upgrade 2 EX1s without problems. There is a thread that covers the procedure step by step, I read carefully and this along with Sony’s instructions made it straighforward. It is nerve wracking though until the camera is re-booted and all is well.

Drive now seen by FCP. Do not know what I have done differently but it works! Thanks to those who applied their minds to the problem, I was panicking as a deadline looms..as usual.
