Offline via firewire DV PAL, Online AJA uncompressed 8-bit PAL

    Is this a nightmare?

A lot of our interview clips appear out of sync after conforming at uncompressed.

    Is this a known issue?

Maybe not a lot of the clips, but enough to cause problems.

Is this an issue with using something like a J3 deck to didge footage via firewire. Can it sometimes miss breaks in timecode and cause problems with conforming?

On a related issue, what exactly did I gain by trying to conform at uncompressed (SD)?

When I put the offline seq above the online footage and toggled between the top layer on and off, there was only a tiny difference in picture quality.

Could I have saved myself a lot of pain by just grading and tweaking the DV footage in an online suite with a decent broadcast monitor?

I have had it happen in an all Digibeta, all RS-422 workflow on an Avid. Dont believe it is an FCP issue. I think the J-Series decks can miss TC breaks more often than the more expensive studio VTRs

I have always doubted the J series of decks for sync. I cannot put my finger on it but offlining with a J3 and then onlining with a real deck has caused sync problems.
