As good as Vegas Pro (and the other versions before Pro) has been, either Sony management (that controls the team of code writers of Vegas Pro) or the writing team itself might not have the ability to write complex features into Vegas Pro, have “shot themselves in the foot” so to speak.
For instance, necessary feature that’s been lacking in Vegas Pro is motion tracking. We all have to get a third party software for this feature whereas Sony could have implemented this feature long ago.
I remember, back in the late 90’s, there was a video editor program (pci card based), with a simple 3½” floppy disk that ran the hardware, which included motion tracking. Yes, motion tracking back then. You’d run, in realtime, the clip, and place your mouse cursor over that area you’d want the effect placed, as the clip moved, you’d move your mouse. Keyframes would automatically be implemented.
I believe Sony has created partnerships with, for instance, Newblue and Boris, for many features via their software/plugins. A move that some users might not be able to afford. Sony has lost sight of this and has lost longtime users of their software.
Sony has “shot themselves in their other foot.” …….Lastly, something that has not been brought up…..the ability to install any version we own, of Sony Vegas, if we need to “re-install” due to newly purchased computer, replace a hard drive in a current computer. We have to “register” online with Sony to have Vegas Pro working. What if Sony decides to stop further “registrations” of our current software so that we’d have to breakdown and purchase Catalyst software (Sony would hope for this).
I, for one, would “jump ship” and turn to another software maker who’s reputation is stronger. Even doing what John has done, by going Mac.
