My frame rates match in Final Cut and Soundtrack. I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s getting REALLY frustrating!!!

I just noticed after I posted my last post that there is another problem.

The VO slowly falls out of sync with the presenters lips. before sending it to soundtrack, everything was in perfect sync.

I was afraid that was going to be the answer, but with 3d space in motion, I was hoping there was a way to do this… thanks.

If you are paying $300/day for a DVX100, you are getting screwed.

I do a ton of freelance work and own a DVX100. Granted, I can only shoot SD, but it’s paid for it self at least 5 times. I would highly recommend purchasing a 3CCD camera along those lines. If you shop around, you can get a lightly used DVX100 for $1000. A few jobs and it’s paid for.

For higher end shoots, renting is the only way to go. But you should definitely own a good tripod and always bring along things you think you might not need (i.e. gaff tape, extra tapes, extra mic cables, etc.) You can never be over prepared.

I do the full-time corporate editing gig, but the money is in the freelance jobs. Just make sure you make your clients happy because there are people who will do this work for next to nothing these days.

I rarely use Final Cut’s audio filters because…uh…they kind of suck. But if you really want to do it in there…I’d try using the AUGraphicEQ filter and try to lower the frequency/frequencies that have the nasty nasal-y sound…

I would strongly recommend against using AE on a mac mini. The biggest reason is that the mini has integrated graphics. If you are just trying to learn the program and are still budget minded, I’d go with an imac. It still won’t be ideal, but at least you will have a GPU to process the graphics.

If you are just using Final Cut and DV footage, the mini will work, although rendering will be pretty slow.

September 24, 2008 at 9:15 pm in reply to: shot 4:3 wants 16:9 for web

If it was shot 4:3 then in my opinion, its a bad idea to distribute 16:9. The reason is that you will either have to horizontally stretch the footage (making people look fat) or crop out portions of the top or bottom of your frame.

But the quick answer is yes. You can use compressor to do this – or you can do so directly out of final cut.
