Since I’m going tapeless playback of tapes is no longer a priority item requiring a deck per’se, I’ve got rid of most tape playback related stuff except a GV-HD700, and a HV20, the GV-HD700 will playback Sony and Canon tapes recorded in 1080i, the HV20 will playback Sony and Canon 1080i, also 24p, 30p progressive recorded over 1080i and 24f, the HV20 doesn’t record 24f but the newer HV40 will.

Its a converter and a codec(intermediate) for editing, AVCHD is very processor intensive, and the intermediate codec releaves processor load and interpolates the 4.2.0 8bit video to 4.2.2 10bit video, it gives you a better color space to work in, the files are about twice the size, but no problem with Sata II drives, there are other NLEs that use other methods, like GV/Canopus’s HQ codec, it accomplishes the same thing but is proprietary to Edius.

Instead of ditching your cam you might want to try a intermediate codec like Cineform’s NeoScene you can download a trial copy at cineform.com If you want to use it after trying you can get it for a $C at Videoguys.com

The capture window in Ppro will be black when capturing HDV, if you want to monitor, connect the output of the IntensityPro to a HD monitor to view the capture.

What you have is Elementary Streams for importing into Encore for authoring, if you want muxed A/V you need to select Multiplexer under advanced settings in the Media Encoder.

Were you recording component from a HDV tape in a deck or camcorder? if so and there were frames lost, usually the sound isn’t bothered and appears to be ahead of the video because of a loss of a video GOP or part of one
