    Hello,

I have an awesome camera, Canon hf-s100. Great HD footage, I’m recording in p24 mode and a 24mbs. Size 1920×1080.

I have a crappy computer that just cannot work with this level of footage in premiere.

Is there another program you recommend maybe? I’m a PC user.

Or, can I simply import the footage as something else so that my computer can handle it? Such as normal dvd quality or will this no work because the source footage is hd?

To edit AVCHD format, you need CS4, and at least a quad core desktop. Laptops typically can’t handle the real time decode requirements for this format.

    Dang.

Ok, I’m going to sell my camera, and get another less high tech one.

Are there different level of hd footage?

I want to do hd but is there a “lower class” of hd?

Instead of ditching your cam you might want to try a intermediate codec like Cineform’s NeoScene you can download a trial copy at cineform.com If you want to use it after trying you can get it for a $C at Videoguys.com

Thanks for the help! This is all pretty new to me so is that software that you mentioned just a Avchd converter? Or is there a little more to it then just that?

I noticed that it does something with the 24p mode, which I shoot in.

Is there another software out that will do these same things?

    Thanks in advance!

Its a converter and a codec(intermediate) for editing, AVCHD is very processor intensive, and the intermediate codec releaves processor load and interpolates the 4.2.0 8bit video to 4.2.2 10bit video, it gives you a better color space to work in, the files are about twice the size, but no problem with Sata II drives, there are other NLEs that use other methods, like GV/Canopus’s HQ codec, it accomplishes the same thing but is proprietary to Edius.
